Any reason for the nudity?

It's bloody warm, that's why. Ever been in the tropics? It can be a real drag, those hot nights. You undress so that you cool of as much as possible.
Also, they've been together for a long time, so they won't be shy and not show their bodies.
It's a touch of realism that gives this film a more credible feel to it than Hollywood flicks with screaming hotties running around in far too tight shirts. -

Thank you they were actually in a hostel. (in reality) there was a fan, no ac probably and yeah. its more comfortable. (i can't recall but didn't she take a shower at sometime?)
also, it wasn't done in a demeaning manner, and not in your face tna.. it wasn't vulgar. -

Well for one thing they mentioned that the AC was broken and they are in the Caribbean. I'd want to be naked too. And if you can't lay down with your significant other and be nude without the intention of sex.I'm sorry that you're you.

I'd say that it is. I am a nudist so I like the idea of nudity when comfortable anywhere, even in social setting. But the funny thing is that when I tell people about my nudism and why I do it all kinds of people talk about how they love being naked in private, but would never do it in front of random people. Either people who live alone and do it whenever alone, couples who talk about how one or both is naked all day and night when they are just chilling at the house or even people who grew up in the kind of house where nudity around family members was totally normal. There's a lot more of us than most people think.

I would assume the director found out the actress was willing to get naked. Why the hell would he NOT include that? It definitely helps the film, show a little bush in the first 10 minutes and you sell anyone clicking through on late night cable.

I think many people are missing the point here - or maybe I'm looking at it from a different angle
I LOVED the scene - but by the same token - if I was an actor making a film about beeing stranded at see I would fail to see the relevance of having to be naked and show more-or-less a full frontal to the camera and the whole world. YES some people do sleep naked; YES the Caribbean is hot - but from a film-making point of view - she could have been under the covers up to her shoulders or in a bra and it would have made ZERO difference to the storyline.
I agree with making films realistic - but only where necessary - couples do sleep naked but showing it for no reason is pointless - people use the toilet - does that mean we should have seen her crouching over the loo ? That's realistic, too isn't it?
Basically the scene was thrown in for no reason - and the actress displayed to the world (although she obviously agreed to do it) for no particular purpose other than "titilation" - if you excuse the pun. It wasn't even a love scene ! -

It's a big world, SmallTownSim. Grow up and get out a little. YES MANY people, NOT just nudists singles, couples, married or not hang out, lounge and even walk around their home naked. Lying in bed especially. Many people I know take off their clothes the minute they come home from work. So yeah, it happens. Take a poll LOL.

Well, I'm definitely not a prude, but neither am I a perv. I don't identify myself as a "nudist" either, but I can tell you that I love being naked at home. I was not raised this way, but it feels perfectly natural to me that when I get home after a long day, the clothes come off. I certainly do "lounge around in the nude" and I don't see anything wrong with that.
To each his own -

The nudity was provided for basically the same reason it's always provided in movies today: the girl is hot and guys in the audience would gladly sacrifice their left nut to catch just a glimpse of her naked.

Why on earth wouldn't you?
I have been with the woman who is my wife for nearly 12 years and we sleep together, naked everynight.
I always sleep naked unless I am sharing a room with my friends - they prefer me covered.
Certainly no nudist but have no issues with being naked or having my family see me naked. -

not a prude here- but unless plans are at hand, i for one would like to be warm. LOL
If you remember correctly SmallTownSim, in the previous scene, the guy was explaining that the air conditioner was broken. Therefore a possible explanation is that she was trying to cool down. Regardless, she had a nice body and I'm hardly complaining. -

I live in Australia, its hot, today it got to 42.2 cent, I and my wife lie naked on the bed at times to be cooler, its not a prelude to sex, just a comfort and not being ashamed of our bodies. Perhaps those ppl who find themselves unattractive cover up just saying.
In this film the couple are good looking so to see them naked without sex brought about realism and accuracy/documentry style film-making.
Seriously, couples (especially long term partners) get naked ALOT in front of one another both during and nonduring sex (specially hot climates). -

Previously in the film we are told that the AC is out. Perhaps it was too hot for clothes, like pajamas. But I don't think taking your panties off would help. I think it was probably a move by the director to highlight the independence of the film (as if that wasn't clear enough), by giving us a little female underparts shot.
