I think he was the weak link in The Pacific. I don't hate him, I just thought it was a bad job of casting the role.
Mazzello was a big child star, so he might have had Hollywood connections that helped him get the role. Tom Hanks is big on that, casting his own kid in BoB. That was a conspicuously bad casting job as well. -

Yes, he was in the episode entitled 'The Last Patrol'. He played a lieutenant fresh from West Point. It was an interesting contrast between him and all the battle hardened Easy Company NCOs who had received battle field commissions.
