Is a stupid whorebag. I love this movie but she is a freaking sleazeballshe starts effing some random dude the night she meets him and has him spending time with her daughter, tucking her into bed and referring to him as "Uncle Jack." Creepy. She pretty much deserved what she got.

I think beneath Stephanie's cool, alluring, and aloof exterior is someone that is probably pretty lonely. You can hear it in her voice when she is creaming Jack with the motorcycle helmet and you can hear it in Maya's voice (Maya, the most sane character of the four and the one who knows Stephanie the best) when she is venting on Miles as Miles drives Maya home from the park.
Granted you have a point about her being a mother and being more careful with who she brings into the house, but I think she deserves a bit of compassion as well. She's a single parent, lives off in the sticks, and probably meets fewer people than we would expect. And Jack tells her everything she wants to hear.
Given all of that I think she deserves sympathy more than scorn.
Just an opinion
Let's never come here again because it would never be as much fun. -

I loved the "Stephanie" character-thought she was fun and sassy. I LOVED the way she told Jack off. And I think she really thought Jack wanted to make a life with her-how was she supposed to know he had a fiancee waiting back home. At least when she finds out the truth she calls him out on it.

I think that Stephanie and Maya are the "feminine" Miles and Jack although they are not the focus of the movie. Both also have a lot of issues that have to deal with in life. As far as Stephanie is concerned, she has a lot of growing up to do since she still smokes pot and has not realized that she is a single parent that has a obligation to her child.

Have to say I don't really see them as a version of Miles and Jack. They are not really established as losers, for one thing. Miles dismisses Maya as just a wine-pourer, but finds out she is both knowledgable about wines and shaping up a better career. Stephanie is a risk-taker, with debatable parenting skils, but single motherhood is nothing to be ashamed about. Their lives may not be just the way they want them, but consider that neither Stephanie nor Maya have to lie about themselves in a film about lying, where Miles/Jack never stop. That gives them an integrity the men don't have, even by the end.
As for the familiarity she encourages with her kid, it is generally considered smart for mothers who are dating to include their kid whenever they can, to make sure they are getting someone who isn't freaked out by the situation or just bad with children. Stephanie's daughter was never unsupervised for more than a minute; it takes 30 secs to put her back to bed and she's in the next room, she's keeping an eye on her at the bowling alley while eating - these are not parenting mistakes. The only mistake she makes is her judge of character, but when someone is that good at and intent on lying to you, are you yourself really to blame?
If you consider the pot a mistake, you have to consider the dozens of open wine bottles everywhere a mistake. Don't take one without the other. I don't see them as a problem, personally.

I couldnt get into her at all. I hated her because she was a bad mom. I didn't care that she had sex with Jack the first night. He did the same thing and no one hated him. He actually was a bigger jerk because he was getting married in a week! Everyone else had good and bad sides but I didn't judge them. It was just her. Once you have a child, you are supposed to be there for them. Did you notice how Maya said that the daughter "spent a lot of time" over at the grandmas? How could Stephanie just neglect her child like that? How could she let "Uncle Jack" tuck her precious baby into bed as shes smoking weed? What if "Uncle Jack" was a pedophile? Stupid bitch. I'm sorry but at that point, I was done with any warm and fuzzy feelings that may have been there for her. The other three people who were partying/cheating/smoking weed/stealing etc, may have had their good and bad characteristics but they weren't involving an innocent child in their problems.
If we are not our brother's keeper, at least let us not be his executioner.

Stephanie is your stereotypical single california mother. she wants more for her child & would very much like to meet a good man who can take care of them.Good ole Jack charmed the knickers right off of her. He really fooled her.
The biggest thing she did wrong was hopping into the sack with him so soon! shoulda waited for a few more dates at the very least. a few wks. would be better. or longer!
She was wayyyyyyyyy too trusting, especially letting her daughter be held & tucked in by him! It's hard to believe that level of intimacy was established in just a few days. maybe that was the only unbelievable thing about the film. she wasn't altogether that classy or mature either~look at her mother!
Butit happens i'm sure. i shouldn't pass judgement on her so quickly; she probably learned a good lesson from the experience. live & learn. next time she won't be afraid to be a bit of a bitch & protect herself & daughter better.
