Sums up so many friendships where one person is the shallow extrovert and the other's the embittered, overeducated introvert, and how we hang onto dead relationships with the opposite sex while new ones are standing right in front of us. I haven't read the novel the film's based on, but whatever Payne distilled is endlessly rewatchable.
