Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Capote

    imdb-ary — 14 years ago(July 18, 2011 03:57 AM)

Absolutely horrible. I'd rather watch someone drag their fingernails across a blackboard it was that bad. Coupled with the boring plot of this film? This is an overrated piece of garbage.

Interesting review on a movie To say the least But hey, you're entitled to your own opinion That's why these message boards are here in the first place.
It sounds to me like you disliked the character of Capote, and you're slamming the whole film because of that reason. Yet he's the very subject of the movie in the first place
Anyway, that is exactly how Capote spoke. And this being something of a "bio-pic," it would be kinda silly to have Capote talk like Orson Welles.
I don't know if I'd say this film was a fantastic over-the-borads-smash, and I will also grant you this film could have used some editing as the film tends to drag a bit here & there, But on the whole, I felt the film was well written, well directed & well acted.
      Trust me,

      My, you're nosey, aren't you?

Maybe it was a good film, but that voice! Arg! I can't remember why I disliked this film since its been a while since I watched it, but I remember turning it off half way through rather than listening anymore to that god awful voice!

imdb-ary, i agree with you, it's a terribly slow film, and is so boring. The voice was so annoying as well. I wish critics gave more reviews like yours for this movie. It makes you wonder what kind of sick beep would like this movie and say it was really good. It drags for years. good review.

Well, I thought it was one of the best movies of the decade, but to each his own. And believe it or not, Phillip Seymour Hoffman seemed to turn it way down as Capote, in keeping in tune with the movie's overall muted, somber feel. Toby Jones in "Infamous" was much closer to the way Truman actually sounded.
Yeah, they're dead; they'reall messed up!

I had the opposite reaction from you. Having seen Truman Capote numerous times on TV talk/interview shows, I was amazed and astounded by Hoffman's capturing of the essence of that voice. I didn't find the plot to be a boring one. I found it mesmerizing.

I suggest that you have mommy turn on "Teletubbies" for you, then. That'd be about your level, I think.

That is exactly how Truman Capote actually talked like. Phillip Seymour Hoffman portrayed this man almost true to life.
