Oh and why is that? Every millennial I know has to work twice as hard as previous generations just to make a living in this rough and tumble world.

        Yea rightLOL
The millennials do work twice as hard as previous generations not to make mommy and daddy mad so they don't get thrown out of their parents home before the age of 40.
Previous generations were the hardest workers, they were never preoccupied with smart phones, video games, social media, raves and expecting awards for just participating.
The new millennials are the weakest generation in history.

False. The fact that the current young adults have to struggle just to survive. We wont get social security. Also our US currency now means nothing compared to what it did 30 years ago. So yes we have to work harder than any of you old timers just to make a living while you would work 40 hours a week at a crappy job and actually buy a nice house. You cant do that anymore.
But to be fair most of this planet is retarded. Young, old, all are stupid. No one has logic or common sense anymore.

Exactly OP has his head in the clouds. Back in the old days, you could make a living with a HS degree, today the majority cant. Even those with a college degree, have to work harder than their parents generation when you could graduate with any degree, even fine arts, get a job and a career where they would help you along. You could get a job, mortgage on a house, a family, everything with a degree and following 'the track'.
Nowadays there is no track. It's like we're all in one giant pot, and millennials dont have much on their side besides youth and the technology you mentioned. They're not guaranteed job security, or a job, or anything of the like. Most aren't even trained, because then the trainers fear losing their jobs to a younger replacement. So millennials have to work harder, and be self learners and compete with everyone from young to old. Most 20 somethings I know have way too much debt, and so are the 30 year olds. And people are delaying marriage or housing, or will forego it completely. But dont fret old man, the younger generations are survivors and we will rectify the mistakes and foolish actions of your generations. The worlds problems, environmental destruction, geopolitics, etc.

As a Generation X Adult born very poor in 1973 as the son of a West Virginia Coal Miner, who has since made good, I'd have to say that both sides are correct on many of these points. I've witnessed a lot of the transitions discussed here, being a kid in the 70s, very young teen in the 80s, my prime in the 90s and so on Plus, I was close to my Greatest Generation Grand Parents & Baby Boomer Parents and paid attention to both. *This is ultimately true and not just in "the old days". Up until the late 90s, the economy was pretty much full of great jobs in most fields. My dad had a history degree in the early 70s and could have landed a job as a high school history teacher any day of the week, in his home town. He chose to stay with the mines because it paid a little more at the time then teaching and they'd just had me. However, many of my parents and grandparents friends/etc. didn't go to college and all had jobs with livable wages and retirements. After college in the late 90s, I broke into a very difficult field (creative-ish) with a Bachelor's Degree, in a town where I didn't know anyone, on the other side of the country. This put me on a great track and wouldn't likely happen now. The reasons for this are in the dozens and there isn't enough time to write it all. Some are.we don't export anything, so almost all of our products are made overseas.women joining/rise in the workforce over time (remember, it wasn't that long ago that most women stayed home with the kids and men went off to work, simple numbers).college tuition increasing 300% in the last 15 years.baby boomers (largest population) lack of saving for retirement, so they stay in jobs forever.more people are educated, so those hiring can require the best.the US workday has changed, where people are expected to do the job of 3 and work longer then 9 to 5, requiring less workforcemany of the jobs then just don't exist now. etc. I'm a progressive (liberal), so no offense for any of these. They are just things I've witnessed, which when added up, along with dozens of other factors, are some main reasons it's difficult for the younger generation to enter the workforce. Keep in mind too, that for much of the workforce in the old days, they worked 40 years without a promotion. Same job, same title, which doesn't fly today.
Nowadays there is no track. It's like we're all in one giant pot, and millennials dont have much on their side besides youth and the technology you mentioned.
*I know it's frustrating, however once you get in the door somewhere, you will have a track. One of the issues today, is in order to get in that door, you might have to hunt for a job.like it's a full time job, which a lot of people don't want to do. There are jobs, but you might have to leave your hometown. Also, entry level jobs don't pay much and you also might spend 18 months doing intern like work. Many people don't want that either, and I've interviewed a lot of them. They arrive right out of school with a Bachelor's or even a Master's and believe they should be VP starting off. I truly believe that many people don't want the grunt low income positions to begin their career at 20 or 21. However, if you just get in there and work hard, it'll happen for you. I'm not sure what created this mindset of starting off at the top, but it's real.
They're not guaranteed job security, or a job, or anything of the like. Most aren't even trained, because then the trainers fear losing their jobs to a younger replacement.
*There is some truth here, but that goes for almost everyone without decades of seniority. The workforce unfortunately offers very little security today, mostly because of corporate greed. Employers want the cheapest labor to not only do the job of many, but improve each year. My dad said as long as he showed up and did what he was asked, he didn't have to worry. Now we have to be "proactive" and add on top of the job description every quarter/year.
So millennials have to work harder, and be self learners and compete with everyone from young to old.
*This is not really true for the most part, but it is more difficult for millennials to get in the door in the first place.
Most 20 somethings I know have way too much debt, and so are the 30 year olds. And people are delaying marriage or housing, or will forego it completely.

              • Again, college tuition has gotten out of control in the last 15 years. I don't know why this happened. I worked part time all the way through college, so I took minimal d

As a fellow Gen-X'er who was in poverty until around 2001, I will agree that it's more difficult for unskilled people to make a living than it used to be. But the one HUGE advantage that the current generation has is that they have access to a vast amount of knowledge, right in the palm of their hand. These days, you can get a cheap tablet, find a free wifi hotspot, and you have access to entire college curriculum online, for free. I used to go to a friend's house, just to piggyback off of his 33.6k dialup connection.

I always find it funny that the generation that squandered the greatest wealth in the history in of any nation (after WWII) in about 50 years time, has the gall to complain about millennials, who THEY nurtured and raised. The Baby Boomer generation is one of the most selfish and greedy in the history of civilization. The world (especially the U.S.) is an absolute dumpster fire now; who's watch did that happen on?

Considering statistically education has massively improved and on average "millennials" are more intelligent than past generations were at that age, I think you're talking out of your arse.

Just out of curiosity, what year were you born in? If you were born between 1982 and 2000, guess what? You're a millennial (and should therefore get off your own lawn).

In all fairness, I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and maybe assume that the 88 in his name is in reference to the year Die Hard came out.
But yeah. Funny how a lot of actual millennials use the "millennial" as short-hand for "kids these days," all the while blissfully ignorant of how moronic they sound.
