I would argue smart people are only dangerous, when there are stupid people around for them to control.

Hmm firstly, you don't have to be Mozart or Einstein to be smart. Or indeed spend your entire life fully engrossed in your craft. It is obvious what he means by smart, to everyone that is.
Secondly, perhaps eugenics needs to be studied more, offically? (Because you know it's happening somewhere anyway) It's rather unfortunate that such an interesting form of science (at least on an intellectual level), has forever been tarnished by the Nazis. It's a shame Hitler wasn't a global warming denier.

I think you'd agree, conventional evolution would usually dictate that the stupid/weak would slowly be "phased out," to put it Mengele-ish. But in our case (humans), we have a bastardized version of evolution whereby some of the population are creating spectacular advancements intellectually and physically, that often give power to all, but don't take into account that it includes our lowest common denominators. As they are able to piggyback through life on the smarter/saner people, without ever having to ackowledging it. They have time to breed, grow in number and power, yet never progress intellectually.
I guess my point is, smart/sane people need to stop giving stupid people weapons, access to unregulated media, and votes. Especially votes.
I disagree completely with the logic of allowing any old idiot to vote. We don't ask the cretins to judge whether or not someone is qualified to be a doctor or pilot do we? No, we try to ensure that professionals, who are learned in medicine and aviation, make those decisions for us. I understand the potential for corruption when you control votes like that, but corruption is better than destruction.
Perhaps it is time for democracy to evolve.

The original poster is right. At least the people of Idiocracy realised they were stupid and valued intelligent people, even though they didn't always understand the protagonist and occasionally tried to kill him.
If the real-world US government found a person with an IQ of 250, I doubt very much they would invite the person to the White House and ask them to solve all the country's or the world's problems.
