Not a bad review for a movie that IMO did not really live up to all the hype.
I think it was sorta seen as being some kind of groundbreaking film because of how a mainstream movie covers the subject of gay sex and connection.
Although I would say they were bisexual since they both showed an interest in women and it did not look like they were being used as beards.
If the men were truly gay then wouldn't the women have been doing all the seducing and not the other way around?
A lot of the movie is just showing a landscape with a romantic/emotional sounding music behind it.
There is talking but that is only to bring up drama.
The only "happy" part is when they reunite but why did Ennis risk kissing Jack within sight of his wife who does catch him?
And what was up between Jack and that other married dude at a reception who talked about going to his cabin?
Was this suggesting something sexual or platonic?
At first it looks like a pretty good movie.
Then upon reflection it looks overrated.

Yeah, agreed. Just felt like a couple of actors trying to score points by doing something taboo. I wasn't fooled by the ploy. Same thing with Philadelphia with Tom Hanks. In fact, Jon Voight once said what would happen if Midnight Coyboy could be made today, he said he and Dustin Hoffman had to be gay. I wanted to see real acting with their heart put into it. The following films are more believable:

Jake plays himself A LOT in everything, but I will give him high marks for Jarhead. As for Heath, haven't seen one good performance out of him (never saw The Dark Knight), and he tended to be cheesy.

Agreed.
The film was hyped to be something that it wasn’t. This was like Philadelphia, a gay theme film made for the dullard straight herd, by straights. It lacks passion, chemistry and is largely meh! There are much better gay relationship films out there without all the forced posturing.
