Remember when Peter tells his buddy that he needs to stop treating him like an idiot. And that when he steals the Rolex, there is a reason other than pure greed. Was that meant to telegraph the possibility that maybe they just stole the keys or whatever permits for the boat and Haardenburg never actually gave it to them at the end?(based on what i saw in the extended ending clip on youtube).
Even if you go by the US edit where they do not show them in Haardenburg's yacht, one could surmise that the Rolex comment telegraph the fact that they need money as a means to do their work and in this case that would entail money needed to get away from the law.
So the ending could be either two ways:- Haardenburg contacted them after some serious thought and gave them a way out. After all, the cops had to know of their other crimes and sooner or later they would have been caught. So Harrdenburg gave them his yacht while he took the cops to their apartment and acted his part.
- Peter anticipated that something like this could happen which explains his comment to Jan near the dumpster area that if he takes something like a Rolex(which Jan threw away), it is for a reason. So he must have stolen other stuff like the yacht key just in case they needed it later on. If you go by the US edit, then he wouldnt have needed to steal even Haardenberg's money. He probably stole something valuable at one of their earlier strikes, and used that to fund their getaway to that island. Haardenberg did turn them in, but thank to Peter, they had the means to get away.

Thats an alternate ending - with them on Haardenbergs yacht.
And I think the Rolex comment, was him trying to explain to Jan that he was part of the 'cause', and that picking up a Rolex watch didnt prove that he wasnt. He says something to the extent of 'I dont mind anything else, but why do you take me for an idiot'.
Which might be as a result of Jan's possible change of opinion in him because of the Rolex.
I dont think Haardenberg was complicit in the whole deal because, they left that note saying 'Some People Never Change'.
The ending I saw was them in a hotel room, and where a spanish speaking room service lady asks them whether she has to clean their room.
And the closing credits, roll over a the backdrop of a huge sattelite. Probably alluding to Jan's plan of broadcasting the kidnapping, or in this case broadcast something else.
So yeah

I think the guy they kidnapped reported them to the cops and the message was for him. They expected this and had a backup plan, not sure how they got his yatch tho. In the version I saw, there was no shot of a satellite, but I guess it referenced his plan to black out the TV yeah.
