At the time Tom had 5 kids to think of. I'm sure he was only thinking of financially supporting the kids he helped produce which is more than what some fathers do. Like I said I don't remember all the events but I do remember Lynette stuck her nose in Tom's work quite a few times. She didn't like it when Tom did that to her so why should it be ok for her to do that to him?
For the anniversary episode, Tom was trying to treat Lynette with romance. He was making an effort. That was not a selfish encounter on his part of wanting to do things his way otherwise he wouldn't have canceled it like he did when Lynette asked him to. He wanted to make things special for Lynette. Is that really wrong for a husband to do?
THANK YOU! I literally forgot that guy's name that Lynette was flirting with LOL I was in a hurry and couldn't look it up. Yes, she was enjoying the flirtation with Rick. When Rick began to have feelings for her, she lost control of that. She had to fire him because he crossed the line but she also led him on. She shouldn't have fired him. Lynette should have kept that a professional relationship and stopped the flirting on his end instead of letting it grow.
Don't worry about coming on too strong. I just don't want you or others to get the wrong impression. Yes Tom had his faults. Look at some of the other husbands though. Rex was actually abusive towards Bree and a disgusting pig. After they ruined Orson's character in season 5, it's not like Bree did any better once Rex died. Carlos in the first season treated Gaby like a piece of property. I'm glad they changed his character because he became one of my favorites as the series went on. I guess Mike wasn't that bad unless I'm forgetting something. I agree Tom has his faults but he's not as bad as some of the other husbands. -

All "husbands" came across as abusive at one point or another. I think that was due to a misguided attempt to make us sympathise with the "housewives" more. I'm glad that they seemed to be able to make Carlos into a decent human being as the show went along - he ended up being my favourite out of the "husbands".
I guess Mike wasn't that bad unless I'm forgetting something.
The way he treated Katherine was awful! They tried to amend that by essentially making her psychotic, but I thought his behavior was unforgivable. -

Didn't Katherine have that coming when she kidnapped MJ or when she was bad mouthing Susan to MJ? Or was there something in season 5 I missed when Mike was with Katherine? Season 5 was a snooze fest for me so I will admit anything that happened in season 5, I am very fuzzy on. I do know in season 6 Katherine was crazy. I don't blame Mike at all for telling Katherine off since she was telling a 6 year old boy that his mom is a whore and then kidnapping him scaring Mike. You don't mess with others by using their kids. That was a huge boundary issue Katherine crossed.
All "husbands" came across as abusive at one point or another.
In season 1 they were really hardcore with making Rex and Carlos abusive. Rex was putting Bree down and cheating on her. Making fun of her for dating George. Carlos, like I said, treated Gaby like property and threatened her a lot. I don't know if Paul ever was to Mary Alice, but he sure did act creepy as hell. Probably because he murdered Mrs. Huber but she was also creepy and extremely nosy. -

I agree Katherine went off the deep end when Mike ended the relationship. She never should have pulled what she did.
But Mike did bug me. Not so much because he didn't choose Katherine. The problem was that he really did give her reason to think there was an excellent chance that he wanted it to be permanent. It felt like he wanted to keep her around as a back up in case something with Susan couldn't be rekindled. If he wasn't over Susan he shouldn't have asked Katherine to stick around for him when she could have been with her daughter and grandchild if he didn't have anything to offer her long term relationship wise. Do that to someone then tell her you never loved her? If that was the case it would have been a perfect opportunity to wish her well as a friend and let her go to live her life so he could pursue his. -

I can't see calling it sticking her nose into it when it came to the promotion. It makes it sound like it's none of her concern or it doesn't have an effect on her. She deserved to be part of that decision since more would have been required of her to make it work out at home. And this was literally not even a few months after her abusing prescription meds and thinking suicidal thoughts.
If anyone was sticking her nose into her husband's work it was Jeanie Peterson by trying to get her husband to hire Tom in the first place. Minus that there would have been no promotion situation. -

I always saw Tom as every bit the control freak that Lynette was. He was very passive aggressive.
I agree with this.
Tom was a control freak, just not as open about it as Lynette was. Besides, how often did Tom actually give up something to follow Lynette's dreams or whims? Maybe she didn't have the same tendency to suddenly want to turn their lives upside down because of something she wanted to do, but still
Tom would often pull the victim card whenever he wanted something, but really, how was he a victim? If anything he was straight-up abusive to Lynette and the kids at times when it came to HIS own personal fulfilment -

Exactly. I can see not caring for Lynette's personality but I never could see a reason to pity Tom for it. He was paid back and overpaid. He flat out used it to get his way. I've never heard of anyone who was supposedly so emasculated by his castrating shrew of a wife get his way so often or seen a control freak cave and hand her supposed victim what he wanted as regularly as Lynette did.

Even when Lynette and Tom switched places in season two and she went back to work (which she wanted to do), it was more due to him having a hissy fit and basically wanting to "punish"/teach her a lesson that working isn't as fun as being a stressed out stay-at-home mother. It was never about giving Lynette the opportunity to go out and get the career that she craved.

Gabby.
She was such a miserable and materialistic diva. All her "nice" moments seemed forced. Now, I don't know if that's on purpose, a limitation of the writers, or a limitation of the actress, but I always felt she was phony. I never liked her. I always thought Carlos deserved better.Pidder Padder? Make my Heart go Boom Bap and Then We'll Talk!
