Is the most disfunctional and immature character. There are times where I can't figure out if she's just completely immature or just dumb. At the beginning she just seems to be quite irrelevant. Like the "dumb blonde" who isn't blonde though. Then she tries to seduce Peter according to Andrew's plan, which shows she has a bit of adult quality. Afterwards she hooks up with Matthew who she's known for 5 minutes and "tells him her family secrets if he tells her his". After Bree puts her own life in danger to save Danielle from Matthew you would think that Danielle would finally see the love her mother has for her, but instead she continues to bitch about what a terrible mother Bree is and tries to commit suicide. She then falls pregnant, agrees to give the baby to Bree to raise and returns after 5 years to take the child back. It is never really explained why she hates her mother so much. It's almost like her character wasn't ever relevant enough to go through the process of giving a reason for it.

That suicide attempt wasn't a suicide attempt; it was totally fake. I so agree with you. I generally wanted to punch Danielle in the face hard. Unnecessarily grating character.

The spoon. Remember Andrew telling Bree and Orson? They're running full speed up the stairs and he's like "No hurry, she isn't trying too hard."

Marc Cherry even admitted that he based Danielle's "suicide attempt" on a real event and said person wasn't too happy with him. Oops!

There's a lot of Danielle hate here, and I get it. But I've always found her entertaining. They give her some funny lines and some of her storylines were great in my opinion.
As for her not having a reason to hate Bree I agree, she's not a thoroughly developed character. In fact, she's pretty one-note. But let's think about this. At the beginning of the show, Bree's whole family has become disillusioned by her, especially Rex and Andrew. Danielle is probably the nicest to Bree, but then she starts to rebel. Bree tries to stand in her way, which only makes Danielle push back harder. Danielle doesn't really become a monster until she dates Matthew Applewhite and Bree tries to stop it. She hates that her mother is trying to control her. I don't agree with Danielle in most situations, but surely she's not the only teenager to ever behave this way. I actually thought it was quite realistic. And then the relationship between Bree and Danielle obviously never fully recovered, even if they get along better in later seasons.

She was pretty shallow really. With a mother like Bree and a father like Rex she should have had a lot more intellegence. That's why her character seemed very out of the ordinary to me. I get why she wanted to rebel, maybe she just got tired of her mother's controlling nature, but it was puzzling as to why she was so dumb. Even Bree once told her "take good care of your looks Danielle, because you really don't have anything else to go by".
