    I assumed through the first half that he'd just dissipate without it, but he seemed to be just fine without it after HB clobbered him. Hell, he seemed to be stronger without it So why did he even bother with it?

      Probably to make interactions with organic lifeforms easier, since he can only manipulate in-organic things. My guess is that his natural form is just the gaseous cloud, and to hold it in a certain shape (like in the form of a person) takes a lot of concentration. The suit lets him have a corporeal form without working at it..

            They probably changed something for the movie, but in the comics he'll eventually dissipated forever without the suit. He can work outside it for short periods, but he needs a physical host most of the time.

              I love the way he stomped off around the corner in ethereal form. IMO his character is a welcome addition to the team.
