I was about to come in and say "Germany, 1933" 🙂
How about "USA, 2016"? Or any number of other places around the world, where fear is feeding populist agendas, helping people who definitely should
    never
be allowed to have political power, to get political power? We're not
    quite
there yet, but the descriptions of how things went down in the movie are eerily similar to how things are looking nowadays.
I know why you did it. I know you were afraid. Who wouldn't be? War, terror, disease. There were a myriad of problems which conspired to corrupt your reason and rob you of your common sense. Fear got the best of you, and in your panic you turned to the now high chancellor, Adam Sutler. He promised you order, he promised you peace, and all he demanded in return was your silent, obedient consent.
It rings kind of familiar, doesn't it?

I think we are a long LONG way away from it, but I can see that it could change very rapidly.
Horrible things continue to happen and there is no justification for those things happening, but people have to take responsibility for their reactions. In reality life for the most part goes on as usual. You don't have to respond with fear, but that's what we're being programmed to do by the media. Simple solution stop listening to the media.

No. Not listening to the media isn't the way. Never taking the word of only one source is the way to do it - and always consider the possibility that there may be more to any story.
A lack of information is the opposite of what's needed.

If you live in the western world (which I'm assuming you do) it's next to impossible to not be bombarded by back to back information about the latest terrible thing that has happened in the world.
My point being that whilst I didn't know about Brussels until a few days after the event, by not listening to the media I didn't get caught up in the hype and hysteria. Naturally I found out about it.
I only found out about Paris because of all the facebook 'French Flags' going up.
I don't stick my head in the sand and hope that it all goes away, but I'm insulated from hysteria by not giving heed to source of hysteria.
Trust me, if it's worth knowing, you'll know about it. It would be nearly impossible to NOT hear about it.
In the mean time I still don't know which movie star is dating which rock star and I have no idea which fragrance is the one guaranteed to get me laid.
          I like it like that.

So you meant more like "Don't go looking for reasons to panic", sort of?
That, I can definitely get behind.

If you're in the west, I VERY much doubt it. At the very least I hope I'm right, but I'm pretty sure I am.

Yeah, sure, we believe you. That's why all the haste right, the rush to secure your safety and freedom.
Oh wait, you're really not doing those things are your. You're just typing drivel from your computer to get people to feel sorry for you.
Well you have succeeded. You are quite pathetic and I feel sorry for you.
