This is one of those films which is incredibly entertaining, but just not well directed. Its kind of a mess its as if it were predicated on a vehicle for Beyonce, and once the dailies were viewed, it became a Jennifer Hudson filmand the final product is a confusing messis about Deena? Effie? the Dreamgirls? the music industry of the 60s/70s? The Supremes? Diana Ross? For me, its a movie where a star was bornas in Jennifer Hudsonbecause she OWNED this movie, and her performance IS amazing, and her Oscar well deservedand the fact that this was her first feature is a testament to her extraordinary raw talent. And yet, clearly, so much time and money and energy was spent to make Beyonce look like a star of all starsand even that couldn't take away from Jennifer's performance. I also noticed that there were scenes which were thrown into montage sequences which could have really highlighted Beyonce's talents as an actress (the phone call between Deena and Effie at the end of the film), but its as if they had given up on thatSomething tells me that the behind the scenes story particularly as it relates to the "Star" and the "Supporting Actor" (Beyonce and JHud), is the REAL/entertaining story hereas I am sure it is a fascinating tale of egos, stardom, movie making, Hollywood, award season, marketing maybe even more so than this film itself
