I was lucky enough to be alive & at a performance with J.Holiday. I can only explain it the way Streep explained acting on The Actor's Studio. There's an exchange at an atomic level that's unexplainable. Holiday made me tingle and singing that song live was a real joy. There are not many who take the stage that can do that magic. This play & movie just did not get me in the story arena. It was just boring waiting for Holiday to sing that song.. You could get up & leave and not miss a thing. Hudson is also just as terrific but remember Holiday was singing 8 shows a week back then/ big difference! Hudson has an amazing range and a great career with her Oscar win but she would never have it if it were not for Holiday.. That show would have closed & forgotten , like many like it at that time one being Melba Moore in " Purlie" clearly forgotten..
