Andy's old friend and those mates of his, attending a play together - any play, let alone that one, was just too ridiculous and felt very desperate and forced.
    then whoa, differences

That's one of my main gripes with
      Extras
, the forced and improbable situations it sets-up for a laugh. Like Maggie and her selective stupidity. At first she's just a ditzy blonde with a lack of social skills, and by the second series it's a miracle she's even able to feed herself.

lol I can almost imagine Gervais and Merchant not being able to look each other in the eye as they decided to include it, not being able to come up with anything else.
Ricky in particular comes across to me as a bit of a perfectionist so I'm surprised when stuff like this gets through.

We're still talking about it 11 years later so it can't have been that bad.

To be fair Stevethe suave good looking old friend could rationally have bought a ticket just to see his old schoolfriend perform but the idea that he would be hanging out with the other boneheads makes no sense.

Yeah they could at least have made Steve's mates sort of ex-rugby playing public schoolboy types, perhaps still rugged but somewhat more urbane than the exaggerated troglodyte types they went with. As you say even Steve didn't look like he fitted in with them.
