This would be such a great series to remake in America, I can't understand why it hasn't been picked up, Hollywood with all it's trappings and the many actors trying to make it as they work as waiters and tour guides, it would be perfect, just have to find the right castingand there would be great and plenty of willing A listers I'm sure willing to do cameos! Comman Hollywood see a hit waiting to be remade and get busy with it!

Nah, it wouldn't work. Extras is good, because it contrasts Hollywood glamour with a horrible English suburban mentality. Also, now and again you get to have people on it who, while not A-list celebs, are very well known, but underrated performers like Les Dennis (who shines in this series) and Gerard Kelly, who is well known in Scotland but not much elsewhere.
It would work best if it WASN'T set in LA/Hollywood, because there must be numerous jobs for extras there. It would be better in, say, Chicago, or Seattle etc, where there is a decent film industry, but not the same level of intensity. Even the Z-listers in Hollywood have an actorish vibe about them. They're not even Millmans.

It depends upon what you think the show is. I think the programme is at it's best when showing the group of strange and puzzling individuals that are the extras, the agents and the successful actors. I think it's at it's worst when it just parades A-lister after A-lister as if their very presence is comical. Personally, I call the good former 'series 1' and the bad latter 'series 2'.
So if one wants a sea of A-listers without much imagine, Hollywood would be a perfect setting. I loved series 1, which featured Ben Stiller, Samuel L Jackson, Ross Kemp, Daniel Radcliffe, Les Dennis, Patrick Stewart and Kate Winslet.
I'm afraid I don't understand how the five of series 1's seven were Hollywood glamour, nor the how the characters being contrasted were from the suburbs, nor how English people from the suburbs are typified by horribleness. But I don't think that's the successful formula of this programme either.

well its a bit of a stupid thing to remake because, they have such high class a listers as bit parters anyway(many are yanks)..
and how can play the part of ricky better than ricky!!
this show cant really go its own way and become a different show like the office -

Every great show or movie is very clearly the product of its creator(s), who in turn are the product of their time and place. This show has the Gervais imprint so strongly that a remake would absolutely and positively be a disaster. Tina Fey is Tina Fey, Steven Wright is Steven Wright, Janeane Garafolo is Janeane Garafolo, David Letterman is David Letterman, etc. each has a unique voice and vision, and any attempt to copy something unique is doomed. Plus, anyone who is smart-funny-creative enough to attempt to copy a great show would want to create his/her own work that's what creative people do, they

One of many cases in point: The US remake of Kath and Kim was crap, whereas the Autralian orig was brilliant, largely because it was the work of two brilliant writing partners/actors who had already been working together for more than 10 years (they REALLY understood each other, knew how to write for themselves and each other), with support from two other actors who had worked closely with them for years. Plus, the characters had been developed over a long time. It's the difference between knowing someone for 6 months vs knowing someone for 10 years you can't fake that depth.
People STOP THE REMAKE MADNESS. 99.99999% OF THE TIME, REMAKES FAIL. YOU WOULDN'T TRY TO REMAKE "THE MONA LISA" OR THE CEILING OF THE SISTINE CHAPEL OR ANY WORKS BY MOZART OR BEETHOVEN OR BRAHMS OR TCHAIKOVSKY SO LEAVE TV SHOWS AND MOVIES ALONE.
