Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — How I Met Your Mother

There was so much good, even when compared with the bad, but they refused to let their conclusion evolve with the series. That is why majority of fans detest it now. That is why many people outright refuse to put any investment in anything the creators do. Personally, I would be more than happy to watch and support these creators in future endeavors, however, it is quite clear that they will not adapt the vision of their art when it outgrows the original concept.
On top of all that, it didn't help that Cristin Milioti was THE BEST embodiment of what we wanted The Mother to be. Especially after Robin had been quite clear over the years that she just didn't see Ted that way and that her marriage to Barney was completely glossed over.

Their vision was the original concept and it ended how it should have other it makes no sense why Ted is telling this story.
her marriage to Barney was completely glossed over.
We saw too much of their train wreck relationship, you didn't want to see how they were crap together in marriage and dating.

For God's sake, stop trying to push that awful finale down everyone's throat.

Boy, the finale is still incredibly divisive even after all this time! I thought everyone hated it until a random sampling of friends found about half hated/disliked it and half for some bizarre reason loved it.
The first time I encountered it, I was like, "but the writers lied to us for 9 years!" My friend was like that was ok because Robin was supposed to be with Ted. While I enjoyed Robin and Ted together, I still don't like the bait and switch finale.
I won't give up on the good times the show gave us, however.
I'm telling you, it the Lando!
