I thought seasons 1-5 were great. Seasons 6-8 were good with a few filler episodes, but no biggie. Then came the final season that lost me with the exception of 3-4 episodes. The finale, however, butchered everything. The story was rushed and they pulled a 180 on Barney's character (I originally preferred this show over Friends because the characters were suppose to develop by learning from their experiences, not obtaining a moment of clarity and reverting to their old ways by the next episode). At least, the creators of "The Wonder Years" found a respectable way to bid farewell to their audience on such short notice. This, however, was an insult.

Initially, after watching the finale for the first time, I agreed with you. However, I have re-watched the whole series a few times and I can say my opinion has changed. I now appreciate the way they presented the final two episodes. Ted and Robin ending up together with him giving her the smurf penis was the only way the series could end. Also, the writers allowed Robin the chance to become the world traveling journalist she wanted to be, before finally allowing herself to settle down and make time for someone else in her life. It was evident after the first episode that Ted never stopped loving Robin, even after he "let her go" for Barney. So, the show wrapped in the same place it started. I like the symmetry to that.

If you re-watch all seasons ,everything makes sense somehow.
