Finale still sucks.

So I figured I'd rewatch the last season since I hadn't seen the season fully since it aired and I actually enjoyed the season more overall binge watching it, and then we come to the finale
They undid everything to match their ending from S1. The show went on to go for 9 seasons things change, Ted let goed of Robin lo and behold he grovelled back to her in the end anyway.
The entire season 9 took place at Barney and Robins wedding only for all that to be undone in one sentence. Everything finally clicked with the episode in which they got married right until Ted narrated Legendary, remember fearing the worse when that episode aired and lo my fears came to fruition.
Having the Mom die. That was seriously messed and infuriating aswell made the whole Robin thing feel so much worse he basically used his wife to try and get their blessings.
I thought the idea of Mom letting go of her dead boyfriend and Ted letting go of Robin then meeting each other was great only for them to ruin in.
Sure the Alt ending does solve a few of these issues but the main once still there; 95% of the finale is still boring crap. The bad taste of what we got in March is still there.
Overall I'm still very disappointed. The Barney thing with the daughter was definitely the best thing that came out that finale but I guess it is what it is, great show overall. -

It does. I watched the finale over Christmas break and it's still bad. But, nothing we can do about it. I've been rewatching the series over again because the show itself is still great just the ending sucks.

I'm slightly less disappointed by it after re-watching it a couple times. my main complaint is how it completely undid everything that happened in seasons 8 and 9. 8 and 9 were completely focused on convincing the audience that Barney had become a new person and had the ability to commit to Robin. Season 9 ended up being completely pointless because the entire thing took place at Barney and robins wedding, except the final episode they were suddenly like "oh we should get a divorce for some reason". It seemed totally forced and it was obviously just an excuse to have Ted and Robin be together in the end

When I watched the initial airing of the finale, I felt like everyone else in the world did. But having re-watched the whole series from start to finish a few times, I found myself understanding what the writers were trying to do with the finale. I don't think there was anyone who didn't think Ted and Robin should have been together after the series premier. That instant they make eye contact in MacLaren's, you could see the instant chemistry they had. As the series ran it's course, and I picked up on this after re-watching it, you could always see Ted deliberately ruin his other relationships because of his feelings for Robin. Hell, Victoria knew it. Side not here, is there anyone on here who liked the whole Jeanette story arc?? I'll never understand why she was a part of the show, she was not attractive, the arc itself was not funny, and IMO, brought down the end of that season. She made Zoe look good in my eyes. But anyway, after watching the finale a few more times, Ted standing outside Robin's apartment with the smurf penis, kinda wraps the whole thing up nicer for me now. Not killing the mother off would've been okay too, but I'm not mad at them anymore for the way it ended. Oh, and the scene where Barney is holding his daughter, is easily the highlight of the finale.
