So, news of this movie has that it's been splitting people. Some like it, some hate it. Therefore the news about theatre walk outs has been hitting the news, and my theatre certainly had them.
About 40 minutes in a family of three walked out. Then, about 30 minutes later, another two left. I've never seen that before, but I don't go to the movies a lot. I really enjoyed the film, so the intent of this thread is not to pass judgement on the movie.

Yeah I had a few walkouts. Leaving at some of the best points in the film as well. No matter, it's most definitely not for everyone. That's what makes me like it even more, I love how some people hate it.

I feel the main problem is that while there is much to admire about the film it overstates its case. At a certain point you want to say "Okay I get it - can we move on please?' People probably left the cinema simply because the film was way too long for its subject matter - and by that I mean what Amy Jump did with the original text. It's far from being best adaptation of J.G. Ballard's work.

Liking it even more just because people hate it proves that you're some kind of hipster, trying to make himself feel special, but with no real substance, taste or intelligence, faker than a Cucci bag

One couple walked out, probably about 1.5 hrs in.
I liked it quite a bit but can definitely understand people hating it. It probably shouldn't be showing in mainstream cinemas, it's not for casual film fans at all.
That is a masterpiece of understatement.

You have to wonder why someone would walk out after an hour and a half lol

In Paris cinema almost everyone left. What a mess and waste of good talent especially James Purefoy. Let's have another season of "Rome" instead of this crap.

Also in Paris, just watched it and no one walked out, not exactly packed though. My husband and I quite enjoyed the movie.

Yes. Around five or six people in total left. I can't blame them.

I was in an indie cinema and there were two walkouts, both couples. Not the ideal date movie perhaps.

It happened at all 3 screenings at the Tribeca Film Festival this week in New York. My screening was the third and final one, and people started walking out after just 20 minutes or so.

Why would you walk out? You already paid for it so might as well finish the damn thing. It's not like you're going to be in the theater for 10 hours. You know that you're going to see a movie so even before you paid, you've already allotted ~2 hours for the movie.

It's also a matter of principle
Also, if you plan to eat a chocolate, buy it, but after you unwrap it you see that it's rotten, you wouldn't still eat it because you've already paid and you've already planed/allotted the time to eat it, right?

I walk out of every movie. It gets me a refund nearly all of the time and I get to see at least half of every movie for free.
