Just wondering. Never been, but probably will in the near future. I hate to let fictional media influence my perceptions, but I can't help it when my only perception of a place is through said media. The movie is hardly tourist friendly, so I ask, is it really like that? Of course stuff like that does happen from time to time, but this movie made it seem like an everyday thing.
"Well?" I pressed. "How did you feel about the end of the world?"
    "Curious," she said.

Not all neighborhoods are like those. This is just another one of those movies that tries to enhance the conception that New Yorkers have of themselves as really tough, really strong people. But if you think about it, New Yorkers stopped at New Yorkdidn't struggle their way across the continent. They (all together) took the EASY way out.

Sometimes you're just in the wrong place at the wrong time ! NY is no different than any other place. Personally, I would never go to any park at night. I lived in NYC all my life and I am just careful. The city is great and everyone should see it, just don't walk down a dark street alone or with friends or even with a dog. Have a great time when you visit.

Many New Yorkers will tell you that the only thing that gets through Central Park at night is a bullet.
A critic will point out your failings. An enemy will never tell you what you're doing wrong.

I've never been a New Yorker, but my experience is that it's best to stay out of any city's park after dark.
Life, every now and then, behaves as though it had seen too many bad movies

What Jaws did to the ocean, this did it to New York.
