Beagles, dachshunds and poodles are notoriously difficult to work with due to their powerful union the BDP
Did you see Bonfire of the Vanities? A dachshund is acting really great in that opening sequence where Hanks is determined to go outside to make a phone call from a booth but the dog isn't too eager nor willing to go out in the pouring rain

Every once in a while IMDb delivers a truly genius of a post that has me laughing out loud literally.

Are you sure it was a pure bred? I have had two German Shepherds and they were larger and the barks deeper.

I once had to work a security job with a German Shepherd that would acted just like the dog in this movie. He was pretty useless and only a "deterrent", which this dog certainly have been to me. I wouldn't approach someone with a German Shepherd regardless of it's demeanor. The whole movie sucked like that. And I like Neil Jordan movies. Ms. Foster has been having a terrible run of movie luck lately.

It was not a GSD, for one thing. And secondly, not every dog will attack thugs or defend someone being attackedincluding GSDs. You clearly don't know much about dogs. Third, the dog WAS going nuts but it was on a leash being restrained and antagonized, it was not freely running around or able to do much of anything.
In addition, it's hilarious that not one person on hereincluding a supposed GSD owner does not realize that the dog in the film is not a German Sheperd. I get that the OP is trying to be funny but the idiocy here is way funnier.

You are correct. That is not a German Shepherd. GSD's have two to three inch long hair along their backs. Belgians have very short hair like "Curtis". Also GSD'S are generally much bigger and their coloring is different. One more thing, the GSD has a unique stance that I never saw Curtis use in the limited dog scenes. A shepherd focusing on a ball almost certainly would have been in this stance which is called stacking.

If I remember correctly it was a Belgian Malinois, and it was a pet dog, not a trained schutzhund/attack dog.

The dog was tied up, and anyway the breed really has little to do with it.
You know what most dogs do during break-ins/home invasions? Bark.
