Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain. -

Ant-Man was being held to insanely high and ridiculous standards. Just because Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy open to massive numbers last year doesn't mean every new franchise after it needs to do the same to be a big hit. Ant-Man came in right in line with how the original Thor and Captain America films did and actually held better week-to-week, and will end with a $170 million domestic total. With key international markets still to go, this one will likely top $400 million globally when all is said and done.

The best part of the Phase 2 Marvel game plan was the diversification of genre, as Kevin Feige was vocal about wanting all of the films to exist in distinct sub-genres and thus exist not as superhero movies but as thrillers and fantasies and action comedies that just happened to contain a superhero in them. Well played Mr. Feige.
Phase Three is off to the best start possible. Maybe too good? How are they going to top Civil War? -
