For me the movie overcame any silly, 'can't be taken seriously' vibes pretty easily, and quickly. I mean, the tone is playful and light, but seriously, miniature people armed with weapons would be a highly effective asset.

The deleted scenes and even the un-shot stuff would have added nothing to the movie. Whoever cut them was right on the ball.
