The character was explained as hating black people because he himself is half black on his fathers side and his father left when he was a kid. The actor playing Combo (violent skinhead) also in a complete coincidence is half black on his fathers side, although obviously did not take the same path of hatred.
The reason he hated Milk's happy upbringing and the reason why he went mad at him was pure jealousy, he wanted the supportive black father + family that Milk always had. -

"What about Meggie? There was at least a 30 year age difference there and he was obviously buying alcohol for those kids."
Which one was Meggie? Was that the really big guy with the eyeglasses?
This movie ruled but I need to watch it again because I know I missed out on parts of it because the accents were so thick. Excellent flick though. -

Would he have been better off moving to the ghetto and living with the blacks? That probably would have been just as dangerous. Combo was the only dangerous skin he hung out with. If he hung out with ghetto thugs 9 out of 10 of them would have been dangerous and I doubt a softy like Milk would have lasted even a week amongst such hardened animals.

This will come as a shock to you but most black people don't live in violent ghettos. Combo is as hardened of an "animal" as there is so he wouldn't have been better offat all. -

They let that initial incident slide, because Combo is a loose cannon, why bother?
Let him go about his way, don't aggravate him and make him start swinging.
That is why Woody and some others in the group didn't want ANY part of him. Because he just made life uncomfortable for everyone.

I agree Milky is stupid. His good nature makes him too trustworthy of other people. Combo was an extremely intimidating & aggressive individual - I wouldn't want to hang around with the guy even if I was White never mind Black.
Combo is confused and bitter with his life. He is confused about what he thinks or knows. And when Milky talks about his family life & his loving family - Combo get's jealous because that's something he has never had.
Resorting to racism & aggression is the only way forward his lack of intelligence and reasonable thinking can take him.
Unfortunately there is a lot of pathetic low lives like this in England who smoke Weed all Day, Get Drunk, Live off Nothing but Benefits yet have the hypocrisy to blame the 'Pakis' & The 'Negroids' - People like this had existed and they always will probably exist in England I am afraid. -

Milky WAS a skinhead, jewel.
So are several of us posting on this message board.
Infact in the sequels, he's the only one who STAYS a skinhead, which is cool.
RE Combo's dad being half black
I didn't know that the actor was mixed (he is). That just makes this whole movie more brilliant. He was beating milky out of self hate.
IT's an allegory for extreme-right wing britain full of everything from tea to curry that's come from foreign places and has improved life, yet exists next to a hatred of things foreign. COMBO.
And the entire movie is an allegory about what happened to the skinhead scene when the NF got involved, the dividing, the conflict, the breakdown, the aimlessness. Top notch. -

"IT's an allegory for extreme-right wing britain full of everything from tea to curry that's come from foreign places and has improved life, yet exists next to a hatred of things foreign. COMBO."
That's a great insight about his name, BlackGas. Combo. He's a combination - of white and black, so there is always going to be a part of himself he hates - the part that came from his father, I suppose - but he can never get rid of it, and even his NAME reminds him of that fact every day and every hour.
So he turns the hatred outwards, towards other blacks.
It's a bit like how the NF and far-right folk hate "scroungers" even though about 3/4s of them exist solely on benefits themselves, and many have never had a job in their lives. They hate themselves.

He had no choice. He was a black boy living in Grimsby in the 80s, even now in 2015 Grimsby is still an all white place. He had a choice either have white friends or no friends. I cant defend him going off with combo though that was just foolish. He probably did it to appear manly, if he said no he would appear scared.
I'm not from texas its just a name I came up with when I was a teen!
