Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — This Is England

    Hey,
I was wondering about the accents in the film. I'm not a native speaker of English, so it is kind of hard for me to recognize different accents; but I thought Combo's accent was a bit different from others, because he was pronouncing 'r'-s more prominently - which accent was it?
    Thanks for your help 🙂

Combo's accent is a scouse accent - that is, from Liverpool. It's very distinct from the rest of the cast, who are all from either the east Midlands (around Derby and Nottingham), Yorkshire or Lancashire. The scouse accent probably has a fair bit of irish in it, it sounds a bit like it anyway and it is a major port very close.

The comment above mine has got it pretty spot on. The only other one I can think of is Meggy. He has a pretty distinctive Cockney (East London) accent.

I didn't notice anyone else having a distinct accent, but as I've mentioned, I'm not a native speaker, so it's kind of hard for me to hear it.
            Thanks for the reply 🙂
