I was really excited about it, but did not like it at all.
Thus, the title of my post.

The complete opposite here. I caught this on Channel 4, had never heard of it before and had no idea what to expect (I had just moved to England literally days prior). I enjoyed it thorougly, and I'm not English.

I'm not "an English" and I loved it. This film is just as relevant for us non-Brits. This film is about hate, influencing youth and I guess also the desire to be a part of something. On the surface it's very English but the film carries Universal themes.

I agree with you, this can easily correlate with many other countries. I loved this film, and I am from the United States.

Any particular reason or are you just trolling?

                        I'm Welsh and enjoyed it.
On a serious note, you have to understand exactly what was happening in BRITAIN at the time to fuly comprehend a film of this calibre.

American here. I liked it, but perhaps not as much as I thought I would due to this film being on 2 separate Top 100 of the 2000-2010 decade lists (Times of London and Metacritic). I likely would have liked it even more if I could have followed the dialogue better (commonly, us Yanks don't get everything due to unfamiliar accents and jargon ALSO my library copy sucked). Also, as written by one English reviewer, the film likely resonantes most with English. Many commonalities with other countries, cultures, etc. But the reviewer noted it was a period he'd just as likely forget (rough times and attitudes in England). So kind of a Stand by Me for English (please pardon the comparison), but with a darker side. Sure- Brits, Germans and Chinese may get and enjoy Stand by Me, but it resonates deepest in those who lived in the culture and times. That' all.

I was born in Ohio and raised in California and I believe This is England is the best movie made so far this century.
