Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Saw III

    Chrispy_G — 13 years ago(May 19, 2012 02:31 AM)

I mean, by the time we get to film 7there is so little to do with the original in terms of characters and etc.
They just kept adding layers and layers to it, and it got so complex.
I just think that the first 3 having characters like Kerry, Amanda, and John at the core throughout the 3that they work so well as a trilogy.
This film ending with Jeff as the last man standing as the last man standingwith his daughter pretty much doomed to die.
I think for a horror trilogy that it's a perfect horror ending. Yeah, you finished off the villain and got revenge, but you daughter is hidden, running out of air, and you have to play another game to get to her.
Knowing that in all likelyhood Jeff won't find his daughter and that his whole family will end up deadsuch a powerfully dark and tragic ending.
"It is my job to keep you alive. I will not succeednot with all of you."

      I just discredit IV-VII in my head. They're a spin-off quadrilogy 😄

Saw is a Trilogy. 1 2 and 3 are all that matter. the others are non-canon in my opinion, or as the one poster said spin-offs.
        Saw III finished the story.

In my opinion Saw 1 was the worst, full of plotholes and inconsistencies, and a cop-out ending. "Oh, all you needed was the key from the tub." And the whole thing with Zepp and Gordon's family was incredibly stupid, the supposed leverage Jigsaw had over Zepp was a joke, and everything about the scene with the little girl is ridiculous. The cops were also beyond the stupidity of a normal cop, everything they did made no sense. I concur with the Confused Matthew review about Saw 1.
I didn't see too many things wrong with Saw 2, but it kind of felt like a teen flick, it was a little cheesy at times. I liked the twists though. But Saw 3 was when it really started getting good, up until Saw 3d where they seemed to wrap everything up too abrubtly. I don't even remember what supposedly happened between the 2 characters at the end.

It should have ended with this one IMO.
The others after this get very silly. The plot holes are enormous in the later ones.
If it harms none, do what thou wilt.

I wish you would bring attention to what the plotholes are if you're gonna say they exist

I remember seeing this in the theatre and thinking there would be no more sequels boy, was I wrong I'm glad they made more of them, because I love 4 and like most fans, I dug 6 a lot too.

Had it ended, I Would’ve been fine with it. But the other ones till 6 have been so good, I have to resentment except that this one is the Best One of Course.

Definitely. I remember after I watched Saw III in theaters and thinking that it was going to be the very last one. I can't believe that Lionsgate has been able to churn out 4 more Saw films. To me, Saw 1 - 3 make a perfect horror trilogy.
As a few others have stated, I try to forget that Saw IV - Saw 3D exist.

It is clear that the writers planned for a 4th with the small scene where Jigsaw was putting the cassette tape in wax.

I'll admit I'm a fan of the Saw franchise, but yeah.it really should have ended at Part III. The ending didn't answer all the questions, but it still works as an end to the franchise. I've read that they have plans for Part 8, which is kind of ridiculous at this point. :I

Total agreement. I thought starting with Saw IV, it was overkill. After a satisfying "triology", they decide to bring in a new character, Hoffman, shoehorn him into the timeline of the earlier films, then throwing in even more out-of-the-woodwork characters in V,VI,VII,VIII, thereby turning the franchise into one big convoluted retcon!

Yeah, this should have been it. Very few franchises can maintain quality for more than 3 films, especially horror. But of course people kept paying to see them and Hollywood is all about the money. Everyone involved should feel shame when a franchise pumps out film after film when they get horrible feedback.

3 is still a step down from 1 and 2, but ending it there would have stopped the further decline of the series. And it would've stopped the writers from finding ways to bring Jigsaw back to life after killing him off for shock value.
They could have came back and made good Saw movies again had they

For me this was like the Nightmare on Elm Street or other horror icons. First one had the story, the rest was to see how people would get killed.
