Interesting topic. Yes, I felt exactly the same way and my dumbass went to see this IN THE THEATER BY MYSELF (except a handful of random moviegoers) because everyone else was either working or doing something else that day. Movies don't tend to bother me but this one was disturbing. It's the only one I won't watch anymore and it pisses me off because it's still a good story.

It was HORRIBLE! I can't imagine the pain you would suffer on the Rack. And how slowly you would have bones snap, and the neck slowly being broken.
Gives me shudders thinking of it!

Listen to the Tobin/Shawnee commentary-when that trap comes up, even Tobin goes "Oh boy", or something like that, and comments on how Shawnee is not looking at the screen right now. That trap is the worst, namely cause I have a phobia about breaking bones, legs, etc.

It's the only trap I have issues with, that and the saw blades in SAW V with the blood sacrifice.
To answer your PS, Jeff definitely could have saved the black dude he just took too long.
As for there being a place for the key Possible SAW IV Spoiler
Since there's a flashback in SAW VI showing Hoffman's involvement in the construction of The Rack, there's a small chance that the trap could have been rigged to not be stopped by the key OR there not being a matching keyhole. However, I think if Jeff had gotten the key and made it in time, he could've saved the guy.

I honestly only compared this scene to the many Vietnam and Korean War POW horror stories my dad and uncles told, when I was a kid. I cannot fathom anyone (or soldier) having to suffer through such physical and emotional trauma.

I just bought the unrated edition on blu-ray and it seemed worst the first time I saw it on the big screen. In fact, it seems like you see Jeff look into his face after he gets the key and then all of a sudden, his head is twisted all the way around.

Hell yeah it freaked me out!! I'm a pretty hardcore horrror-film fan, and I had my head between my knees, hyperventilating like a mother fecker when I first saw it at the cinema. It was just WAY more brutal than anything I'd seen so far

The thing that I noticed was, after just a few seconds the guy's bones started breaking and snapping through the skin.. So even if the main guy did go and put the key in, the guy wouldn't have been able to move and still probably would have died from blood loss. it's like what jigsaw said to the girl he was teaching "you're games are unfair"

I'm not sure (missed the first 30 minutes) but I remember at one point the girl was saying how since the old guy was sick, she had to step in Now I don't know if that means she had to set it all up, or if she just watched the cameras. This was the first saw I've seen, so I'm not to sure on how it all works

Have you seen saw 6? Im pretty sure amanda was helping john while he was sick and hoffman was the one who did the trap, amanda also confronted him about it too I thinkbut I know for a fact that he dumped timmothy's body on the ground out of a wheelbarrow.

any time, and you should really watch six it shows you quite a bit about saw 3 and a little bit before saw one I believe. 5 shows hoffmans motives if you havn't seen that one too.
