"Saving Private Ryan Rated R, should maybe be NC17 "
Why? just because of graphic, realistic war violence? not only is SPR a great movie, but it is a movie that should be seen by all for its realistic take on war and its brutality. Would you rather let a young kid see a great war movie with a great message and insight, or a foul mouthed crude adult comedy like The Hangover? No way does SPR deserve an NC-17 rating

I agree with you, Saving Private Ryan should be seen by every child in high school to give them at least some sense of how horrific war is, and that World War II isn't just some past event they have to memorize to pass a class, it was a terrible ordeal thrust upon millions of people, many of whom had to die agonizing deaths to accomplish the difficult, but necessary goal of destroying fascism.

So could SPR have had more gruesome content that would get it an NC17?
Also thees a movie I remember watching in high school called A Separate Peace that had like 2 F words and got an R.somehow lol

It was a big budget Speilberg studio film, so no. They could have done anything they wanted and it would not have gotten an NC-17.
That happens when you have studio execs on the MPAA.

Titanic earned a PG-13 because that nudity is used during an art scene. He's not having sex with her naked body, he's drawing it. It's art. Much like the boob in Across the Universe.

Yes. Killing is killing, regardless of if it's war or murder.

It does if you understand why ratings were put in place in the first place, which you clearly do not.

The lame remake/pilot of The Dead Zone was rated R because I kid you not one of the characters makes a passing reference to President Clinton "getting head." Compare that to what made it into the PG-13-rated Austin Powers series.

Want a real shock? Rent the 1970s version of INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS - Brooke Adams walks around topless for about five minutes near the end. And it was rated PG !! I don't even think those scenes would make it in a PG-13 movie unless James Cameron were directing.

Yeah, but PG-13 didn't exist until the eighties.

I was very shocked that the Austin Powers series made it without an R, especially the second one.

Matrix: End credts have Marilyn Manson song that has somewhere around 8 F words in it. Plus, exit and entrance wounds from gunshots are rarely ever shown in PG-13s, and Matrix has them in multiple scenes.
The drawing scene in Titanic is in a non-sexual context. The actual sex scene doesn't feature any nudity whatsoever. Tons of PG and PG-13 movies have rear and topless nudity. Johnny English is PG and has an old man's ass onscreen for a few minutes.
Grease was recently re-rated (after your post) and it IS now a PG-13.
I haven't seen Hunchback in a while, but 'Hellfire' alone should get it a PG.
                        .

I think the Hellfire scene was edited for the G rating the dancing female figures were originally too scantily clothed for the MPAA's comfort. I would have given it a PG anyway, especially for the moment later in the film where a man's teeth are punched out.

The lyrics to the song and what he's singing about should be enough by themself. I mean, think about it: he knows God wants him to murder all the gypsies, so he's asking God's permission to let him rape Esmerelda instead. And he doesn't really want to, Esmeralda's evil magic is making him want to rape her. Then, when he finds out she escaped, he decides to go back to his original plan of burning her alive unless she allows him to rape her, in which case he won't kill her.
If The Nightmare Before Christmas can get a PG solely because of Lock, Shock and Barrel's "Kidnap the Sandy Claws" song, that should get a PG as well.
                            .

Did you know that Midnight Cowboy was rated X when it was released, then downgraded to R after winning the Academy Award? Oliver Stone had to fight to keep Scarface from being rated X as well.

Scarface is understandable, graphic and brutal violence, graphic and ongoing drug use, most F words in a movie at the time of its release (before Casino), incest, nudity.yeah

Andromeda Strain (the original one), rated G (but contained a content descriptor that it wasn't appropriate for children). Contained skeletons, blood, cursing (albeit very mild), and nudity (also mild, bare breasts and buttocks). Should be PG or PG-13.
The Informant!, rated R (contains a dozen or so f-bombs and a couple of crude remarks), should be PG or PG-13.
The Jerk, rated R (there was no PG-13 back then).
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (rated R, should be PG-13).
Oh, and you CAN show blood spurting from wounds in PG-13 movies (Lakeview Terrace comes to mind as a more recent example, also had two f-bombs).

you should all be ashamed of yourselves.
PLANET OF THE APES!(original) rated G, should be at least PG for the premise alone. i could have brought it in for movie day in elementary school. granted the teacher would never show it, but based on the rating it would have been a legitimate submission.
