remember when they are in the rain and they are waiting to get hit by lightning. and she can't find the cork to the bottel of wine. if you look, the cork is on top of the antenna. the guy put it there cause the cork is not a conductor, so they will never be hit by lightning.
I never noticed it until i watched it for the 7th time with a friend of mine who has a huge tv noticed it. now does the ending make sense

I missed it, too. I really liked this movie, so I'll definately watch it a few more times. And next time, I won't be up, walking around and missing scenes.

I saw the cork tooand it made me cry like a baby. You realize just then that even if he is ALSO very mentally sick, there's a spot in his heart and brain totally devoted to her. He wants to save her. He will utilize any tools he possibly can to make her "give up hope" so that she can live on.
Tragic couple: She, unable to connect with most people. He, destroyed by early abandonment. Anyone who saw this movie but only saw a comedy at the first degreeyou're dead wrong. Besides, I've never seen Park CHan-Wook make a movie yet that is truly meant to be understood at the first level. I never believed him when he said that he did this movie for his 13 years old daughter who "just got into films". I think that when he saw that people would not see the true meaning of this film, he might as well find an easy excuse for the flop that every one will buy.
.either that or i'm dead wrong and he wanted to use all the knowledge he got from his pschylology studies that he never got to use.;-)

Thank you! That makes the ending so much more palatable I really loved it up to the ending, but that makes it so much better.

Ah, that makes more sense. I thought he was counting on dumb luck. It means that he will always be there looking out for her. I actually saw tyhe slow pan over the antenna and I was wondering what was at its tip. I didn't consciously recognize it was the cork from the wine bottle.
BTW in real life that wouldn't actually stop a lightening bolt but it fits the logic of the story just fine.

Thank you for posting this! I did not realize it was there. I thought it was silly that he would do so much to save her then sit in a lightning storm hoping to be struck. It makes the ending sooo much better to me!

The cork on the antenna ties the whole end of the film together. It integral to the plot yet subtly placed there and only just alluded to. I'd like to say that I noticed it myself, but I think the missus pointed it out to me. I'm glad she did otherwise I'd be posting on here about a great film with a poor ending. Thanks to the cork and their nakedness on the hilltop, it's a perfect ending.

i noticed the cork the second time i saw it. made me realize i have no attention, because it is deffinitely meant for you to see cork.

Just finished watching this and ultimately enjoyed it. As usual with this director's films, there was a large segment about 2/3rds of the way through in which I didn't know where we were supposed to be headed or when we'd get there. Picked up momentum again towards the end though, also as per usual.
I saw the cork the first time but it didn't click with me what it meant, I suppose because it didn't occur to me that a cork would have any chance of stopping a lightning bolt.
Thought he was just chancing it, hoping they'd get through the night and be able to move on. The cork interpretation makes it more satisfyingly romantic, though. He was doing all he could think of to protect her, even if the cork may not have worked.

Thanks for that, I loved the film and understood it but was really confused by the ending because without the knowledge of the cork on the antenna, it wouldn't make any sense.

                                    Awww!
Well, okay, first of all, I have to say why did everyone not like the end? My boyfriend and I just watched it (he had seen it before, I hadn't), and we talked about it for a while afterwards, and I think the ending was BRILLIANT, even without having noticed that.
I guess I just like endings that have resolution In a book, there is a climax, and then a resolution. In most movies nowadays there's a climax and then the credits, and you don't get the part of the story that often is the best bit. I thought the scene where she finally eats was the climax of the movie, and everything afterwards was some well needed resolution for the main characters. I do admit that it's a little off-putting to have a huge chunk of running time after the climax, but only because it's not normally done.
Anyway I'm glad you shared this though, because neither one of us caught it, and it really does make the ending even better. Awesome movie, I can't wait to watch it again! And again and againagain..again..again.againagainagainagaaaaaaaaiiiiiiinnnnnn..

Really, people didn't notice that? I thought it was very obvious. The camera showed it specifically. Anyway, not trying to be a snob,i just was surprised very few people noticed.
