Just watched this. So happiness is only real when shared. Sounds nice, but I'm left thinking that this movie used this in a very misleading context IMO. So the main character had issues with how his parents raised him. His father cheated on his mother and hit her. That's bad, clearly. But at the end the main character realizes, "Oh, so if I'm not with my family, then I'll be alone. That sucks. I can't be happy if I'm alone so I should just forgive my family for being that bad" literally this is the opposite of the "Better to be alone than in bad company." Am I missing something here? Ok, his parents are really materialistic. They wanted to give him a better car. Ok, that may not be good, but at least they are coming from a good place, ok, you gotta cut your parents some slack sometimes. misguided but good in heart. That I can get. But his parents were a bad example to him. He should have gone away or maybe sought to help them something like that but why forgive someone who's being bad? Because it's worse to be alone and with no one? So if I'm dating someone who hits on me, and is abusive, I should still love them? That's what I don't get about this movie.
