Zwolf-
Some of the best comments on any thread in IMDB history.
I completely disagree. His comments may make more sense than the OP's (not a hard feat) but overall this thread is just two egotistic white men going back and forth.
I've noticed it's always unsuccessful people who feel the need to define what live is, how to live life and criticize other people's life choices. Pathetic. -

"Philosophers are unsuccessful people." Wrong? They push humanity forward?
There is also little to no ego in my objective arguments for Chris being a good human being. Just observations of the facts that we have been presented with. -

But he WAS stupid. He was just a kid. He didn't think he was putting his life in danger. He didn't even have a reliable map, he didn't make sure anyone knew where he was or that he had any way to get in contact with the outside world.
The reason people care about his death is because it's so tragic and the fact that he didn't need to die is what made it tragic. The ironic thing is nobody would care what he did if he hadn't died. He would have either stayed in Alaska, built a cabin and become a hermit or gone home and gotten a 9 to 5 job, or maybe something in between. But the fact is he made a stupid mistake and it lead to his death. He didn't have the skill set to live in the wild with no back up.
People can relate to him because he did what many people would like to do or because many people feel lost when they are trying to be come adults. He rejected everything he was told should be important to him and tried to find his own bliss. I don't know too many people who can't respect that. But that doesn't mean he wasn't stupid. -

Yeah, I read through your posts and your attempted reasoning to support your positions and they really don't make any sense.
I respect you and your respect for others and your politeness. But I can't respect your opinion because it is too nonsensical. -

The problem is you are offended by the word stupid. It's not a positive word, but it's accurate. Just like if you smoke and die of lung cancer when you knew it could happen you're stupid. Or if you know you need new tires and get into an accident: stupid.
Let me rephrase though, it's not about
being
stupid, it's about doing a stupid thing or making a stupid decision. Chris did a stupid thing. He knew it, we all know it, there's no point in really talking about it because any life choice you make that leads to your death is by default a stupid choice. He didn't go out there to die, so the fact he did die means he failed at his goal. -

No, what you're doing is
assuming
that I'm offended by the word stupid. When really, I'm saddened that people think it is accurate to call him stupid, when he is clearly not. Because it shows where people are at, how little they know, and how brainwashed they've become. -

Ok, we get it troll. Your argument is very basic, and a go-to for most unenlightened people. However you are entitled to your opinion, just don't spam the thread like a whiny baby.
I am not sure if you are talking to me because I never got a notifying email. But the way these posts line up, it looks like you are. If you are, just because someone's opinion doesn't agree with yours, doesn't mean they are a troll. I don't think me stating my opinion makes me a whiny baby. Then, if you weren't talking to me, I apologize. -

This was the only post I replied to of yours. I stated that you are a troll because it logically doesn't make sense for someone to post over and over in different places how stupid you think he is. It is a form of spamming and you can be reported for that.

Albert, You have no clue what you are talking about. The movie had a lot of inaccurate details. Chris did not poison himself. He was injured and that kept him from being able to walk out. Someday you could trip and break your next. People die every day from trips and falls at home. Chris like many other people loved nature and he was very experienced and knew what he was doing. I wish people would stop all the hate speech. Especially since they talk with complete ignorance. Taking a Hollywood movie as 100% fact is a bad idea. Hating on a real person with faulty information is wrong.

You're right the movie wasn't 100% accurate. I personally enjoyed Penn's artistic additions to the film but that's just me. You're also right about the hate speech being a result of ignorance. That sums it up nicely in a simple way.
