Usually people are pretty laid back on the imdb message board
lol
You must be luckyPeople trip out like you raped their mother if you disagree with them on the boards I've been on!
I JUST finished the series last night.
It's a decent show. I didn't hate the later seasons as some, and the finale was meh-ok, not horrible. (Keep in mind I didn't invest 8 years, more like 2 weeks
)
Anyways, I suspect the show wasn't up your alley rather than her. She's a main character, but rarely does she have TOO much screen time - sans Gemma/Sons of Anarchy.
Like I said, I really didn't like her character from the start, and though there were moments I did, all in all I still didn't really like her.
Regardless, she DID evolve into a very good character. (read as, her character got better and was lesschoppy. The actress really stepped up her game as the show went on)
The 1st season, as with most series, starts kinda weak as it's, wellNew and they're figuring out the stride and all.
I've never heard of Jennifer Carpenter before this show, and I don't recall seeing her before but to her credit, she ended up nailing it.
Regardless,
peace out

Ha! Made ya look!

No one on television is worse than Anna Gunn, and I loved Breaking Bad. She's a fantastic actress, but she constantly plays the role of beep which kind of makes you wonder if she really is one. But that's just the angle she's comfortable playing. I would never have drinks with her as a person, but I'd hate watch anything she plays in cause she is talented and I love to hate her.

Not sure how much is the actress and how much is the character that annoys me. Not that Deb is better or worse than me, but I think my problem with her is that I am so polar opposite to her character, I just can't find much to relate to and she bugs me.

I totally agree! Her acting is horrible, she is either cursing or crying/laughing (I can't tell the difference) Maybe you should do what I used to do, watch the show with the remote in your hand and fast forward through her parts. I guarantee you won't miss anything interesting and it's a much better show. (I ended up loading a few episodes and editing them)It's worth it because other than Deb it's a great show!!! (At least the first few seasons)

I do the same thing, watching the series again after however long it's been since it went off the air. I'm sure she was giving the series what it wanted but I found it very hard to believe that someone so out of control of their emotions could be a police detective. I'm pretty sure the show's producers like the contrast - Dexter buries his emotions, Deb is a walking nerve end. Hard to accept someone rising through the ranks like that who has no freaking clue her brother is a serial killer. It may have worked in the books (wouldn't know, haven't read them) but not so much for me in the series. -

I agree 100%!! I really liked the show Dexter but Jennifer Carpenter is a terrible actress! I've also come to like the show Limitless & she's ruining that show for me too. I could live with a talented actress who isn't attractive or an attractive actress who can't act Jennifer Carpenter is neither! She's a terrible actress who is incredibly unattractive!

I haven't formed a complete opinion yet (only halfway through Season 1), but I completely bought her nervousness and hesitations as she was grasping for confidence. I actually felt embarrassed with her on a couple occasions. This is my first exposure to her and as of right now, I'd have to disagree about her talent. That may change as the binge goes on though.

Debs got on my nerves severely. By the end of the series, I wanted to shoot her myself. I realize that she and Dexter had a strange brother sister relationship but she so much played the jealous girlfriend when it came to Hannah's character. It seemed pathetic and misplaced.
To be a hetero, she sure talked and acted more like a guy. What guys see in her I definitely fail to see. Maybe she played the character to the letter and was a great actor, I don't know. So, maybe it's just her character that I don't like. I don't see the attraction to her whatsoever. She's way too emotional to be a subjective policewoman in authority. Maybe bipolar, she's always crying, bitching or cursing. Doesn't seem stable at all.
