Msellman1 above makes some good points, though I don't think it the most cringeworthy of the film's moments I give that

well, in the german dubbed version they say: "You can't do this to us, we do not have warm coats with us!" That sounded a little strange, so it is interesting to know what they said in the original version.

Here is what I laughed at
a thread in which members of this site from inside and outside the USA treat a line in an action film as if it's an indictment on the people of a nation. So many responses about the naive and arrogant Americans uttering such a preposterous point of view. And while such a comment may have been naive or arrogant from a character in a film, it's nowhere near as naive and arrogant as so many people responding to it as if it was a real comment from real people, deserving of pompous diatribes diminishing the credibility of Americans.
So to answer the OP, yes I did laughat this (thread!) -

As an American, I groaned when I heard that comment, but I think you are right and that it was intended to be a funny comment on the way Americans abroad perceive themselves.
Woody Harrelson's gauche American made me squirm. He was so 'Aw shucks' dumb I wondered what the heck he was doing crossing Siberia on a train. -

Your prejudice toward us is causing you to exaggerate our view. We don't "feel immune" but because we benefit from a higher level of liberty, justice, a hyperactive media and a powerful government, we feel like all these combined, may cause our persecutors to think a little harder before they proceed.
Yes, I'm very turned off by the world's view of us. We're people just like all of you. The only difference is, we've been treated better by our government, giving us the belief that being American will slightly better our situation when on foreign soil.
The tone of the movie didn't give me hope that being American was gonna help in this case. Since the villains were operating outside the law.
I wonder if any of you non-Americans can understand why the OP's post causes acrimony between us? Can you imagine what it's like to be American and read or hear the views of foreigners. I detect a lot of jealousy.

They said something like: "You can't do this to us, we're American!!"
I don't think he said "You can't do this to us" I think it was pretty much just "We're Americans!" I took it to mean that being American somehow meant they were innocent, rather than them deserving special treatment. It may seem like a ridiculous thing to say, but he said it out of desperation. I'm not American myself by the way.
