Just finished watching "Inside" Damn!! It was nasty! Definitely a top contender for French extreme madness!!
The story, acting, atmosphere, gore, setting, "cringe factor" were all stellar!! The acting was great, and that antagonist's performance can only be summed up as
award-winning
!
Although made on a cheap budget, it looks damn good! The acting really carries it, proof that serious acting chops can take horror films to the great heights! The atmosphere was so chilling! And the story was simple yet effective, and, and totally diabolical!
What i found really entertaining is that in these extreme films, the french give the girls these action-heavy, badass roles, which is very cool to see play out. And they're done superbly, with such precision and grittiness! It definitely adds rawness and realism to the performances overall.
I'd rank "Inside" up there with "High Tension," but it is not as creative nor intellectually-stimulating, emotionally-draining as "Martyrs," which I feel is the best french horror I've seen thus far. "Frontiers" is really intense and equally relentless. It has the most action of the four I seen. It's kinda derivative, but still is pretty nasty.. so this is how it goes: #1: Martyrs, #2: Inside, #3: High Tension, #4: Frontiers
I haven't watched "Ils" yet, but I plan on doing so! -

This movie was disturbingly brilliant. I haven't seen alot of French horror films, but this one definately takes the cake for me. Out of High Tension, Martyrs and Inside, I'd go with Inside being the most effective horror out of those three.

This is my favorite New French Extreme horror movie (unless you count Irreversible, which I like a little bit better).
Favorite French Horror movie of all time?
I rate it 4th, after:- Possession (1981)
- Shiver of the Vampires (1970)
- The Iron Rose (1972)
"Stink, stink, stink, Mr Murdock!"
