Such a good movie to watch when you're drunk!

My friends and I saw Ponyo on a whim. We're all animators and of course love Miyazaki's work, but I don't think we were quite prepared for the madness that was about to follow. The story to "Ponyo" is ridiculous, the scenarios are bizarre, the dialogue is dubious and the voiceover is dodgyyet the whole thing managed to send us into hysterics!
The couple behind us sitting with their kid must surely have wondered what we found so funny. Mild intoxication no doubt amplified our reaction somewhat. Liam Neeson voicing an orange-haired pedophile from the sea perhaps? Sosuke's lunatic DUI mother? The blatant disregard for any semblance of reason?
I loved it!!!!

I didn't say alcohol was required to enjoy this film, but it certainly adds to the experience. You should try it. Anyway why are you complaining, aren't you a raging wino yourself?

You must agree that Fujimoto is a very strange character and the scene where he slithers out of the sea and peers into Sosuke's bedroom window was a blatant opportunity for a group of drunk students to poke fun. Likewise with Sosuke's mother, who is nuts and doesn't seem to have any consideration for her 7 year old's welfare.
Nothing in this film makes sense. It is stark raving 'bang-your-head-off-a-wall' bonkers! That doesn't matter to kids, but adults will either roll their eyes at the inane lunacy, or laugh. And if you're going to laugh you may as well crack open a few cans. See my point? -

HAHA I didn't quite get that view on it. I watched it by myself and the fim's tone was completely honest and innocent. Sure I twisted my nose when she was driving (thinking hmm yeah this is figurative) and when the school's assistant let Sosuke leave school with a raging typhoon outside and then mom's "oh Sosuke I'm sorry the door wan't working" moment ha..
But yeah it would've totally come down to those laughs if I saw it with some friends of mine.
The Past is an illusion. It is indeterminate and probabilistic. -

Well, not to split hairs, but that was a living room and under the circumstances I can understand why he was peering into windows. Anyway, what animated film wouldn't look different under the influence of alcohol? Along with pretty much everything else
