I really like that idea. Maybe the people getting off the elevator would be the new tennants to what would be the boys old apartment. That would be cool

I will be disappointed if it is that simple. I hope it is not. I hope the writers can deliver with something smarter and more creative (I apologize for any implication about you; that is not intended, my comment is directed at the writers of other shows). In Grey's Anatomy I was very disappointed with the way they got rid of Dr. Derek Shepherd. I also think that the writers of Haven had no imagination when they ended that show. There are many other examples. I think the elevator deserves more. The elevator is a challenge for the writers; they obviously did not expect the show to go for so long, so now they must make up for it with a very inspired explanation.

If you believe from references in The Staircase Implementation that those events all took place in 2003, then the elevator has been out of order for 13 years.

Schneider would have had that thing working by now, lol. Actually it's kind of funny that someone as anal as Sheldon hasn't raised hell about getting it fixed from the second he broke it to this very episode.

In tonight's episode they explained why Sheldon knocks three times. It is a reasonable and creative explanation. I hope they also have an explanation for why the elevator was not fixed that explains all that; why none of the geniuses fixed it and why they did not complain much about it. It should be a reasonable and creative explanation.

It probably will get fixed in the end. Maybe the guys haven't complained about it being broken because they don't want to call attention to it. They'd be risking the reason for its demise resurfacing.
They were lucky they weren't in deep boom-boom.
I don't think I've ever looked for frogs under my butt while I was wearing my Snow White gown.

That would be a reasonable explanation, if they were the only tenants. But they're not. Someone had to have complained by now.
My opinion: the landlord considers fixing the elevator to be beyond his "reasonable accommodation" requirement because it's severely damaged.

I did not mean to imply that no one else had complained about it. I was only offering a possible explanation as to why "our guys" hadn't complained.

                      Yeah, it would be good.
Still considering it was destroyed by exploding rocket fuel, honestly there lucky they didn't damage the buildings structural integrity.

They were routing extra power to the structural integrity fields.

Yeah.was wondering that myself.and would think that it gets fixed in the finalebecause that's the kind of thing you do for a finale.
But here are some things to ponder about the elevator before it gets fixed.

                            1. It might not be that big of a building and the landlord may know that the damage was caused by his tenants and doenst care.
                            2. The building may be owned by sheldon
                            3. The elevator may have been exploded outward causing irreparable damage so that it might be impossible to simply fix the few broken parts.they might have to weld a whole new elevator car in the shaft
                            4. They only have one elevator in the studio..so each time they walk up a floor the prop people have to rearrange the police tape and the flower boxes and everything. Its really kind of impressive.
                            5. Has it been 10 years in clock time on the show? Its 10 years for us..but how many years for the characters?

There is a real elevator in the studio for the show? That is so unnecessary, such a waste. Even if the elevator in the show works, they don't need a real elevator in the studio; just doors.

Probably not a true 'working' elevator. Probably just enough for shots with the car in place and out of sight both above and below. Most likely the elevator wasn't put there for the show but rather they used a set with the elevator already there and built around it.

Ive read an article a while ago that there were some things that they considered "superstitious" as a crew/team that they most likely wouldn't reveal.
Also I always assumed (we all know what that does) that it was just 1 "floor" and they just walked from the ground floor to the 1st floor then up to the "2nd" floor but then back down and the next shot is them walking up the same stairs. Someone that has been to a taping would be able to answer that though.

It's obviously a running joke that two PHD University research scientists have rented an apartment together for 13 years with no elevator. It's Pasadena not NYC. Buy a condo boys, pay yourself not the land lord. If it's not a gag, the studio may not have wanted to spend on new sets as the show has been rumored to end for the last four years and they told the writers to just accommodate the existing set.

Things such as the broken elevator violate basic building codes and A.D.A. laws, and certainly wouldn't be broken for a decade+. But this is one of those running gags we just accept.
