I have to disagree, I liked this ep and found it funny. I am definitely ready for the gang to get together though. They've been apart too long and the episodes do feel fragmented.

Series 1 - 4 still had relationships - Leonard in love with Penny and wanting to be in a relationship with her from the very first episode!
Also characters cannot be stagnant - it was a natural progression for adults in their 30's to start getting married and maturing.
To you, Baldrick, the Renaissance was just something that happened to other people, wasn't it? -

First Ross, then Rachel became parents on Friends, and I do not think it made the show any worse.
It couldn't get any worse by that point. I never was able to watch a whole ep of Friends, ever. But by then from what I did see it really stunk.
