Which might not be such a problem if Sheldon were actually maturing/changing, but really he's not. He'll be "normal" just long enough for one scene or one joke, and then he's pretty much back to the same as season 1.

Is this what you people are talking about when you claim that Amy changed her mind about having a baby?
Sheldon: All right, everyone pay attention. Yes, I have a friend named Amy Farrah Fowler. Yes, she is female. Yes, we communicate on a daily basis, but no, she is not my girlfriend.
Penny: Okay, well, what do you communicate about?
Sheldon: Well, my work in physics, her work in neurobiology, and most recently, the possibility of our having a child together.
Penny (spits out drink explosively. Howard types. Robot arm hands Penny a napkin): Thank you.
Leonard: Wait a minute a child? You never see this girl. You just e-mail and text and Twitter. Now youre considering having a baby?
Sheldon: Amy pointed out that between the two of us, our genetic material has the potential of producing the first in a line of intellectually superior, benign overlords to guide humanity to a brighter tomorrow.
Because unless there is something else, you really should stop saying that Amy changed her mind. Sheldon and Amy discussed a possibility, and Amy pointed out an advantage to it.
That is hardly Amy wanting to have a baby with Sheldon and years later changing her mind. -

She no longer wants him in the same way. She wants him to love her. He is being mechanical and unromantic, just because he wants to create something intelligent and she wants a real and lasting relationship to bring a child into. She said at one point she envisioned them being married in four years. I think that was foreshadowing. She now wants to be married when they have a child. In the episode you mention they were talking about a surrogate anyway. That's definitely not what Amy wants anymore.

Did Amy actually talk about using a surrogate? I thought that was just Sheldon, and he and Amy were discussing a possibility.
I agree with the rest of what you said. -

We got everything second hand from Sheldon and absolutely nothing from Amy. It was not even discussed on the date Penny drove them to. So I'm not sure why anyone says Amy changed her mind, since we got no info from Amy at all, but that's how the thread was worded, so I tried to work with it knowing Sheldon at that point wasn't good at making things up. What complicates it is that Sheldon immediately dropped the whole idea when Penny threatened to call his mother, so I'm not sure if it was any more than a vague discussion with Amy at all. if she had really been keen on the idea, I think it would have come up again. -

That has been my point all along.
so I tried to work with it
I tried to point out that I did not think it was the case with only limited success. -

"I'm going to tell your mother on you!" does seem like the kind of thing that would cause
Sheldon
to stop even talking with Amy about it. His mother also made him apologize to Penny and return her clothes etc, even when he didn't think it was his fault. "She started it!" -

At that point, yeah, he didn't want to deal with his mother. Later on, after he caught her on the couch with the guy from her Bible study, he might have been more resolute. -

Amy might make a good mother, but Sheldon should NEVER NEVER NEVER EVER EVER EVER NOT NYET, ACHTUNG BABY NEIN, DA, NO NON, MAI NON, UH-UH, MM-MM, NO PHUQING WAY IN HELL, EVERbecome a father. FORGET IT
I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked. -

She does want to have a baby with Sheldon. She does not want to 'open her legs' so Sheldon can 'put a test subject' in there. Perfectly understandable. You don;t 'make a baby' for science, you have a baby out of love and because you want to raise a human being. This is not what Sheldon wanted when he suggested to have a baby.

That's funny. A new board tagline for anything that goes wrong should be "Thanks Bernadette!".
