Should Honk have figured out it was Walt a lot sooner?

No. He found out about Walt at just the right time. The only reason it seems too late is because we're the viewer, watching everything Walt is doing. It's obvious to us because we see it. But think about it from Hank's point of view. In Hank's eyes, Walt is kind of a harmless boring doofus, incapable of doing anything criminal.

β 3 years ago(February 02, 2023 06:57 PM)In Honks eyes Gus Fring was just a friendly neighbourhood business man who helped out the DEA until he found some pretty damning evidence on him in the form of finger prints at a crime scene, yet he let a lot more damning evidence slip right by himβ¦.
Walts association with Pinkman
Walts sudden windfall of money and buying a $800,000 car wash on the guise of random winnings
Both Skylar AND Walts odd behaviour ( such as the fugue state and the pool incident )
Gales W.W note and the fact they are both lovers of chemistry
Walts hesitation about helping him go after Gus and how walt was always trying to steer him away from Gus and the purposeful car crash
The missing lab equipment
The fact that the meth could only be cooked by a genius
The fact that Heisenberg came on the scene not long after walts ride along
The fact that walt was going to leave his family destitute if he died
That time when walt drove in front of him during the sting operation
still a perfect show dont get me wrong

Those are all great points, TJ. Thanks for listing them⦠but I feel that you underestimate just how much a person - even an ace detective like Hank - could be stuck in a mindset. Preconception is a powerful thing. Imagine if my late grandmother - one of the sweetest and most pure-hearted women I've ever known - was secretly a criminal mastermind dealing drugs. I could never believe such a thing about my grandmother in a million years. Similarly, Hank couldn't believe Hank was a criminal mastermind in a million years. Eventually he put the pieces together, but he had to overcome an absolutely huge mental block that stopped him from ever considering Walt as a criminal.
But⦠something I do enjoy is the numerous times where Hank gets a confused look in his eyes, as he first encounters a number of those hints you mentioned. No doubt, he just chose to ignore the hints at the time.
What I find interesting about Hank's character is that he's a doofus too⦠incompetent in a number of ways (e.g. he just couldn't handle a manager job), but detective work was something - the ONLY thing - where he excelled. -

β 3 years ago(February 03, 2023 12:29 AM)In the scene where Honk is going through the inventory of Walts school lab, Walt is acting really nervous rather than confused, how did Honk not pick up on that in the slightest? He has only known him like 15 - 20 years

Yeah, seems like a a guy like Honk would've picked up on that. Though, given his confirmation biases regarding Walt, he probably just thought Walt was acting nervous about having someone break into his lab.

It's like car doors, no matter the situation most of the time people will shut or slam a car door. Seriously be on the look out for scenes where people exit a car in a hurry in TV and film I bet you 9/10 times they will shut it lol
