first, unless you have a pre-confirmed appointment with your doctor, you cannot just walk in and "see" your doctor. Care usually/almost all of the time results from going to a "walk in clinic" where either an MD or a physicians assistant will take a look, and then prescribe meds or further tests. AND unless you go to a clinic or facility which your insurance provider has previously authorized as "in network" you the patient must pay the full amount: sometimes it's hundreds of dollars; or it can be tens of thousands, depending on the severity and magnitude of care given.
second, if the situation is serious then one would go to a hospital emergency room. again, better hope to whatever belief system the patient has that the ER chosen is in network. My friend collapsed from acute pancreatitis and i took her to the closest ER. she was in the hospital for 5 days. the bill was $80K. The hospital was not in her network.
third, I know of no european or UK politicians who have ever called for adopting the US's healthcare system. Do you think Nigel or Jacob would ever even consider it? dont be daft. The monthly premiums alone would lead to a revolution -
