Silver Wing, Sheepstealer, Morning, Cannibal and Terrax didn't have any maester around, they all vanished without actually being killed during the Dance with Dragons some went feral, some went away with their riders.
But I definitely think they could have eggs in the crypts of Winterfell.
Bran during the warg when ramsay burnt winterfell?
because of vermax?
hotsprings?
gargoyles?
I'm not dismissing it, I'm just curious about your opinion

It would be impossible for there to be dragons without any spotting anywhere in the known world.
They were all being poisoned. The Maesters don't have to have been physically present for the poison to have slowly kicked in.
because of vermax?
Yes, it's a weird detail to throw into TWOIAF, I think. -

There is always places like Sothoryos and Shadowlands or even Old Valerya, surely there was no war among dragon riders there so there must be dragons around that side of the world. Cannibal or Sheepstealer could have flown there.
even poisoned, some of them might have laid eggs (if we consider they can change gender.
yes it was awkward to say the least.

People pass through Valyria. It's uninhabited (except for the stone people) but not particularly remote. It's also close to a number of locations in Essos. But we don't even have hints of them being spotted.
I'd rule Valyria out completely.
The problem with them going to Sothoryos or Shadowlands is why the hell would they do that? There is no connection to those areas for the dragons (as one could argue for Valyria). They aren't convenient from Westeros.
It just assumes they'd go there for no other purpose but to explain their absence. It'd be a huge coincidence.
I definitely think there could be more eggs out there though. -

get away from humans? be with other dragons? - I mean if they exist in Westeros and Penthos, surely they exist in other parts of the world-
Not saying you or anyone here is wrong (myself included) but if we reverse the logic, out of the five dragons i mentioned there is only one skeleton mentioned and no one knows if it's one of them. surely by now the bones of 5 dragons would have been found and sold. take Sheepstealer for example, apparently Nettles and he flew to the Vale and are linked to the Burn Men. where is his bones (if he died)? if someone found them surely they would sell them to the Arryns.

get away from humans?
There are humans in Sothoryos. And there are humans in Asshai, which is right up against the Shadowlands so there are probably humans there too.
mean if they exist in Westeros and Penthos, surely they exist in other parts of the world-
By that logic there are elephants in Europe.
I have no doubt dragons could have existed in the Shadowlands at one time, though. But the Shadowlands do have some contact with the world. If they were flying around now we'd have a hint of it.
And they'd still have to fly over all of Essos to get there. But no one ever took note of that? Not even in rumor? -

Don't we hear rumors of ice dragons in the north? Sailors will randomly have ice blocking the passage they just went through while spotting something in the sky. Again, this is probably just world building, but I will be sad if there is no legit ice dragon.

By that logic there are elephants in Europe
Elephants don't fly do they
Europe doesn't have Elephant friendly ecosystem does it
and Dragons in Westeros seem to be linked to hotsprings (winterfell and Dragonstone) at least in westeros.
surely there must be hotsprings/furnaces in the rest of the world.
also:
Dragons are native to the continent of Essos, and it is said the first dragons came from the east, from the Shadow Lands beyond Asshai and the islands of the Jade Sea
And they'd still have to fly over all of Essos to get there. But no one ever took note of that? Not even in rumor?
true true.

Vermax laying eggs may be a strange detail, but that is what GRRM does. He brings up myths, fables, and truth and twists them all together. Some have merit and some don't.
People can say what they want about him, but he did a great job with building the Planetos (is that what it is called?) world. -

Do we KNOW where Dany's eggs came from? I mean we know who gave them to her..but do we know where he got them?
I thinks it'd actually be odd if there weren't more eggs out there. Has to be.
And can someone seriously elaborate on the dragon, eggs, and all the truth or speculation about the crypts of Winterfell. -
Iberian_Wolf — 9 years ago(January 13, 2017 01:43 AM)
I won't elaborate much on it but I'll say what I have read

apparently someone wrote down what happened during the Targaryen reign - these records are called The Testimony of Mushrooms.
Mushroom was a dwarf fool (people thought he was retard) at the courts of Viserys I Targaryen, Aegon II Targaryen, Rhaenyra Targaryen, and Aegon III Targaryen. among other things he wrote down some very controversial information such as the King having been poisoned instead of dying in his sleep and all the debauchery going in very detail. the Maester deny some of the Testimony but a big part of it is true to the oficial history.
Among such controversial stories he wrote Vermax laid eggs beneath Winterfell in the hotsprings when his/her rider went to talk to the Stark in charge.
the problem is because vermax had never laid eggs they thought vermax was a male.
anyway there are ppl in wsesteros who say dragons can change gender at will.
this is ofc the very summarized version of it. I think there was someone else mentioned called Barth who agreed with the Fool or at least gave him credit somehow.

there is one alive in the asian place far to the east (go figure) it is worshipped and kept secret by religious group out there.
there's PROBABLY at least 2-3 alive in southoros. they just went down there and now they're like the loch ness monster. the others, well, they're dragons. and dragons are dumbasses so, you know, they died.
