I haven't seen Shane either.
Ft Apache is notable since it was a preview of what Henry Fonda would do in Once Upon A Time in the West.
I can't believe that Ennio Morricone never got an Oscar prior to the The Hateful 8. -

Interesting back story to Sergio Leone's spaghetti westerners. Leone learned his craft as Vittorio De Sica's assistant.
In the early 60's James Garner was very popular in Italy (always was) so Leone cast him as The Man With No Name in the Western version of Akira Kurosawa's Yojimbo - A Fist Full of Dollars. Unfortunately shooting on The Great Escape went over schedule, Garner had to decline. So Leone cast Clint Eastwood instead.
