Nolan himself says he looks up to D&D while creating His show

Goes without saying. Nolan is highly overrated. Average at best.
Id rather say it and say why, even though this is not the place. The big sin of Westworld is to cheat its viewers by breaking the very rules it sets up for the sake of effect.
When you hear from one of the characters that it takes thousands of hours to educate and train someone, you dont accept that one of those would have been educated and trained on the side without anyone ever knowing of it.
When that twist is pulled on you, it feels like the writers are writing backdoors into the script and are just going to have anything they want happen just because it will be cool or shocking or whatever. It can be fine if you came in for a cool and shocking or whatever show but youve just been diving for 7 episodes into some intricate mystery trying to make sense of timelines, motivations and hints when Agatha Christie suddenly turns into the Monty Python Flying Circus.
In the end the whole thing is just as bad as if you were told that Tyrion is a hidden Targaryen then that Varys also is a hidden Targaryen and that Gendry was actually Cerseis son.

Also this from EW:
The series nomination puts Westworld in competition against two other sci-fi/fantasy shows, Netflixs breakout Stranger Things and Emmy favorite Game of Thrones. The latter is a particularly interesting face-off as Thrones is also on HBO and has been cited many times by the Westworld showrunners as a world-building inspiration for their series. So whats it like competing against one of their own major influences? You dont compete against Game of Thrones so much as be happy youre in the same conversation, Nolan said. Thats a magnificent show and were thrilled and flattered to be in the same conversation.
Seems like a nice guy

They are preparing succession. The more they refer to the old (GoT) when praising the new (Westworld), the more the new one comes to look like a worthy successor to the old in the public's view.
They are not being "nice", they are associating themselves to the "old master" in order to inherit from it.
They are just fabricating the new hype.

Just saw in the digital booklet of the Westworld soundtrack that Nolan said he hired Djawadi because his "magnificent" work on GoT. What a king
