now that he is becoming a Maester, I hope the storyline has him doing something really great and/or heroic. Perhaps in helping Jon with something. I'd like to see him become somebody really important in his society, so that he can show his father up.

Oh he will. He'll save Dany's stalker, get the glass candles working and find a way to get Dragon glass. Plus he will join the Watchers of the Weight.

Yeah, that's just what we need: more corny Sam scenes.

He will be on top of Gilly this time.

I already find Sam to be heroic
in his own way. He has killed a White
Walker and a Thenn. He has stood
up to and taken a beating from his
NW brothers when they tried to rape
                Gilly. He challenged Thorne's
                authority by nominating Jon as
LC. He took the family sword,
something he knew his dad would
                FLIP his sht over.
                For someone who believes himself
to be a coward, he is certainly
doing his best to prove himself
                wrong.
If bravery is being scared to do
something but doing it anyway, Sam
has proven himself to be a fairly
                courageous guy.
