Is it just me, or are you two arguing for the sake of arguing?

Ever study public history? It isn't childish at all. First hand experience is the best way to understand the mindset of the people who make up the whole. Full disclosure: public history is boring as ****, but if all you're doing is reciting the opinions of others, you're not adding anything to the conversation. Really, you're detracting from it. Societies, cultures, are made up of people. The best way to learn about what makes them tick is to actually talk to them. I'm not talking about getting drunk in a bar. Go talk to a cashier, an accountant, a stock broker. Go talk to a theoretical mathematician, and carpenter. I may have read a thousand sources on the Roman empire, it doesn't mean I really know how Romans perceived their world.

Perhaps not every single person but reading a thousand sources about the Empire does in fact give you an excellent view of their world. That is the point of written history. Do you even history, bro?
Reading a dozen studied books or other sources about a society gives you a better view of that society than talking to a hundred random cashiers. The point is you get a broad, factual take on it.

100% No. history tells you what happened. Talking to the people that make up a culture actually gives you an understanding of that culture. It's extremely telling that the one occupation of the multiple I listed that you latched on to was cashier though.

And where do you think the information we have of different eras comes from? Do you think someone perhaps travelled in time to check what's up? No. It's from actual people who lived it.

Is it? It's literally your first example. Apply that same rhetoric to any of them.

I think it's become fairly obvious who the real idiots are here. I mean, I never realised my BA in History is useless for only reading those damned books.

We have functional brains?
I kid. The fact is many people in the States do not have a decent understanding of other parts of the world and have a very narrow concept of politics as a whole whereas Europeans are better at this, on average. Not that there aren't people on both sides of the pond who lack interest in politics. Which is fine. But when the citizens of USA are electing their president, they should have knowledge of the rest of the world and its people since POTUS will not only have an effect on their country but the rest of the world as well.
The US is pretty fcked now. Europeans will watch it crumble. Can't leave your kid alone for a couple of hundred years, eh? But Trump and all his minions should be kept away from environmental issues. He can ruin the world around him all he likes but is not allowed to do it for the rest of us who don't even care about him or his country.

They do what they can to make themselves feel less like sheep but honestly nobody in America gives a rats ass what some pretentious European thinks let's face it nobody is beating down the doors trying to sneak into their sh-thole country to have a better life or looking at them with a critical eye and for guidance on a global scale because at the end of the day their little bs country just doesn't amount to very much no matter how much they try to sugarcoat the sh-t and pretend they have some kind of superiority which clearly does not exist.
