eh, i disagree. there's some big thematic of rebirth, grief, and getting over a big fall in the movie. there's a lot of symbolic imagery in it (bullock's character staying in fetal position, to represent how she's going to come out of that experience as a new person). even the tag of the movie 'don't let go' refers to the grieving process.

Well actually, I liked Bullock's character and performance. The backstory about her daughter was sad and made me care about her, and I really found myself rooting for her survival (even though that was inevitable).
So yeah, I disagree with you that it's visuals and nothing more.
