Me,once.
Traveling through South America, in a shthole little town on the border between Peru and Ecuador, I was sitting in a small bus company office waiting for the next bus.
All at the same time, an older man and a young woman entered and started asking questions loudly to the bus company employees. Two guys walked in, arguing. And a beggar entered and asked me for change.
Then all of the sudden it was quiet, they were all gone. As was my backpack. I had fallen for the old distraction game, one of the oldest tricks in the bookI ran outside but they were all gone.
Fortunately my passport was not in the bag, it was in an uncool but useful travellers pouch on my body.

Been paying taxes all my life. Thieves are amateurs, politicians are professional.

Ugh. That's terrible. From where did they steal it - home, work, shopping?
I have had my car broken into twice (once in my own driveway) but i don 't consider it ws being robbed as there was nothing to steal.

No kidding. I got robbed in a taxi between Tumbes (Peru) and the Ecuador border as well. I talked my way out of there though, gave them $100 and they let me go with the rest of my possessions.
I was also robbed in a taxi in Lima once (I was living there) but that was more hard core with guns and sh-t involved.

I almost put up a
but maybe this isn't one of those instances where "hey, me too!" is appropriate haha. That town is filled with pickpockets and thieves. So is Mancora for that matter but I still love that town, very fun times there. I thought by that Tumbes incident I knew how to look out for myself and my stuff having been in South America for over a year, but I guess not. I hate the Peruvian taxi system so much, I never feel safe in any of the taxis there because even if they look all official you never know.
